Are Smart Baby Monitors Worth It?

The concept of ‘monitors’ for babies is not something new. However, like all technology, baby monitors have gradually become more and more impressive as time has gone on – leading to the modern smart monitors.

Over the past decade, there have been some pretty incredible baby monitors out there, all of which have offered useful and invaluable ways of keeping track of your baby’s health and comfort. However, many people do not see the point of smart monitors, especially not when a regular monitor can do the job just as well.

Are smart monitors worth getting? What do they offer compared to regular monitors?

Ease of use

This is a great point in favor of a smart baby monitor – being able to just press a button to activate your baby’s monitors in the nursery is great. If you have got a large house where you can’t hear your child easily or do not have a lot of time to visit your baby in person, it might be the first thing you appreciate about a smart monitor.

On the other hand, it is a bit more complicated and probably more expensive to set up a smart system than a traditional monitor. Even so, this initial set-up struggle will be worth it once the monitor is fully functional.

Security

If your baby is asleep in their crib and something happens in the nursery, this is your first line of defense. Most smart baby monitors (the ones that make the sounds, anyway) can record sound as well, and some are even designed to sound alarms if your baby stops making noise for too long.

If you need to use a camera instead, many also record video, and some even have motion sensing to detect whether your baby is awake or asleep. This can be invaluable for many, many different reasons.

Additional Features

Beyond these factors, many monitors boast their own extra features or benefits that make them much more useful. In some cases, they might even be more practical, instead offering something that just helps you enjoy your baby’s safety and comfort a little more.

The main benefit of many smart baby monitors is the ability to send alerts to your smartphone and receive them using the app. This allows you to use your phone as a remote, and it can be set up to tell you if your baby is awake or asleep.

A very useful feature of some smart monitors is they can monitor and report back on their own temperature. This is a small detail, but it might allow you to check on your baby if their room has suddenly gotten too cold or too hot.

Being able to record video and sounds allows you to store all kinds of memories that you might miss yourself. Treating a monitor like a baby sound machine can be a great way to relax and make sure that your baby is alright, and recording these sounds can give you something with a lot of sentimental value.
