Food Holidays: July 19th, 2022

As I was preparing todays post for our series sharing Food Holidays: July 19th, 2022. I begin to miss my mom because it’s National Daiquiri Day and my mom loved Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri’s just as much as my sister and David does. As for me I don’t care for Daiquiris. What about you?

National Daiquiri Day

National Daiquiri Day is celebrated on July 19th, when people drink this Rum-based Cocktail. Did you know the Daiquiri was likely invented by Cuban miners? An engineer named Jennings Cox supervised a mine in a village named Daiquiri in 1898 during the Spanish-American War. After work, Cox and his colleagues would gather at the local bar. One day Cox mixed Bacardi, Sugar, and Lime into a glass of Ice. The beverage was named after the Daiquiri mines, and the drink became a popular staple in Havana.

NATIONAL DAIQUIRI DAY ACTIVITIES

  1. Go online and find ya Daiquiri recipe, then head over to your local Liquor Store and purchase the ingredients to make your own Daiquiri.
  2. If you have access to a Swimming Pool then put on your bathing suit or swim trunks and enjoy a refreshing Daiquiri by the pool.
  3. Today is the perfect day to host a Daiquiri party Step 1: Make sure you have enough Daiquiris to go around. Step 2: Invite friends and family to the party. Step 3: Turn on Summertime music and let the good times roll.

WHY PEOPLE LOVE NATIONAL DAIQUIRI DAY

  1. According to researchers, the taste of Daiquiris releases a chemical in the brain which makes people want to drink more. Daiquiris can also trigger the production of Dopamine in the brain, leading to nothing but good times.
  2. Daiquiris provide a reason to hang out with those we love which is why today is the perfect day to throw a Cocktail party, keep the party relaxed, and catch up with your family.
  3. A Daiquiri is not just a drink, Daiquiris are an achievement of sorts. From all the hard work that gets done Daiquiris ends with everyone getting together. Making the Daiquiri like a gold medal at the end of the day..

Five Facts Daiquiris:

  1. The Daiquiri Cocktail, contains Rum, Lime Juice and Sugar. The Daiquiri takes its name from the village and iron mines of Daiquiri near Santiago, Cuba, where the Cocktail originated around 1900.
  2. The Daiquiri was named either by American engineers working there, or by the U.S. troops who arrived there in 1898.
  3.  At least one source claims the Daquiri did not appear until after World War I.
  4. Thirsty partygoers and responsible parents lookin’ for a frosty, fruity thrill can find drive-thru Strawberry Daiquiri stands just about anywhere in New Orleans.
  5. Drive-thrus now limit customers to only one straw per visit, and they can no longer pack adult-strength Strawberry Daiquiris with kids’ meals.
