Unique Holidays: July 19th, 2022

Welcome to our series sharing Unique Holidays: July 19th, 2022. I would like to ask you to check out the holidays being celebrated today and let me know which holiday you most want to celebrate and why. As for me I will pass on both holidays as I don’t like Daiquiris or Raspberries. Do you like them?

National Daiquiri Day

IIm sure you know it’s the middle of the Dog Days of Summer when the weather is hot and sultry. Making today the perfect time for a cold and refreshing drink. Enjoying a Daiquiri on National Daiquiri Day is the perfect solution, to cool off from the heat.

The original Daiquiri consists of Rum, Lime Juice and Sugar, with Ice added to the glass. Did you know the Daiquiri was first created in 1898 by Jennings Stockton Cox, an American mining engineer. The Daiquiri was named after the local mining village of Daiquiri, Cuba, at the Venus bar. Needless to say, the local miners loved Daiquiri and it’s popularity quickly spread. As the Daiquiris popularity grew, so did the number of varieties. The original Lime based recipe remains the most popular, along with Strawberry. The number of different Daiquiri flavors is only limited by the number of Berries and other Fruit.

In the 1940’s Ernest Hemming conceived the frozen Daiquiri at El Floridita in Havana, Cuba, when he had the bartender Constantino Ribalaigua run the drink filled with Ice through a blender.

National Raspberry Cake Day

National Raspberry Cake Day makes today sweet as a Summer day can be. Raspberries are among the best of Fruits that nature has to offer. Put Raspberries into a Cake then, you can “have your cake and eat it, too!”

Raspberries are one of Summers sweet, Fruity treats. The Raspberry harvest is going on right now. It’s only appropriate that we enjoy a slice of Raspberry Cake in celebration of Raspberry harvest.

Three step recipe for National Raspberry Cake Day:

  1. Go out to a “pick your own” Farm and pick them fresh Raspberries and if you have children bring them along.
  2. Bake fresh Raspberries into a Cake.
  3. Eat Raspberry Cake with family.

Raspberry lovers will also enjoy National Raspberry Cream Pie Day.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
