Homeschool Resources: Kiss

I would like to share a new Homeschool Resource: Kiss the musical Rock Band. It wouldn’t be a music class if you didn’t study Kiss at least once. I don’t know about but did you know when Charlie was little he was obsessed with Kiss. Along with his friends AJ and Dylan. They used to dress up and perform like Kiss. I thought I would share The Ultimate Guide To Kiss Magazine Issue 32 Music Spotlight Collector’s Edition Single Issue Magazine – December 20, 2022 with you which Charlie will be using in our Homeschool Classes this week.

I don’t know about you but I always thought Paul Stanley with the Star on his eye was so cute. As strict as my parents were I was allowed to listen to Kiss. One day I would like to attend a concert with Charlie. Would you like to come with us? If you have a fun fact or a favorite song of Kiss please leave me a comment. I will share the information with Charlie. In the meantime if you would like to learn more about Kiss you should pick up Kiss Forever: 40 Years of Feuds and Fur.

About Kiss:

Kiss (stylized as KIϟϟ) is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973 by Paul StanleyGene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. Known for its members’ face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid–1970s with shocking live performances, which featured fire-breathing, blood-spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits, and pyrotechnics. The band has gone through several line-up changes, with Stanley and Simmons the only consistent members. The original and best-known line-up consisted of Stanley (vocals and rhythm guitar), Simmons (vocals and bass), Frehley (lead guitar and vocals), and Criss (drums and vocals).

With their make-up and costumes, the band members took on the personae of comic book-style characters: the Starchild (Stanley), the Demon (Simmons), the Spaceman or Space Ace (Frehley), and the Catman (Criss). Due to creative differences, Criss departed the band in 1980 and Frehley in 1982, though both would return later.

Reading Class:

Take your children on a Field Trip to your local Book Store or Library. Have them pick up a book on the Musical Group Kiss or they can shop on Amazon like my family did. Read the book and once they’ve finished ask them to write down three facts they learned about the group inside there Reading Journal.

Charlie will be reading KISS: Behind the Mask – The Official Authorized Biography and Kiss Forever: 40 Years of Feuds and Fury for 30 minutes each day.

Then Charlie will write 2 facts he learned from what he read in his reading journal each day.

On Friday Charlie will compile the information into a report to be read to his parents.

Math Class:

Research how many records Kiss has released.

How many went Number One? How many Gold Records?

How many States have they played in and how many times in each State?

Use these numbers to create 5 math problems for someone in your home to work out.

Then let them use the numbers to create 5 math problems for you to work out.

Write the math problems inside your math journal.

Music Class/ Drama Class:

Look up all the songs Kiss has released and choose one song to perform in front of your parents. Create a Costume like Kiss would have worn to wear during your performance. This may require a Field Trip to a Vintage Clothing Store. or Resale Shop which is a Homeschool Field Trip.

Include the lyrics to the song in your Music Journal and a picture of you in your costume.

Charlie will be performing Rock n Roll All Night.

Art Class:

Create a College of everything you learned about Kiss using different Art Styles. Inside your Art Journal write down what you created and why and include a picture of your Art Work.

Cooking Class:

Look up what Kiss favorite food is. Or one of the singers Hometowns and what food dish there famous for. Create this dish to be served during your Kiss performance.

Write the recipe to the dish inside your Cooking Journal which will get turned into a Cookbook at the end of the year. Include a picture of your creation.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
