Homeschooling Your 7th Grader

Homeschooling Your 7th Grader

The “new normal” we now live in is still discouraging face-to-face classes because of the ever-present Coronavirus Pandemic. All schools are still closed and almost all of them conduct classes online.

For your 7th grade, homeschooling is still the best option for teaching especially in this pandemic. Online classes are usually good for students who are in 10th to 12th grade because they are more literate in computer systems and operation.

Subjects and Curriculums

You should teach your children the same subjects that are required in schools all over the country. These subjects are the forefronts for your child’s learning and each subject has different curriculums for you to choose from. Not all children learn the same way so it is up to you to choose the best curriculum that would fit your child’s pace and understanding.

1. Math

  • Math-U-See Math
  • This curriculum helps your child practice new Math skills and review them in the next lessons.
  • Saxon Math 8/7 – This curriculum provides instructions in the ascending order for your kids.

If you’re having a hard time teaching Math to your kids, some helpful videos on the internet give clear instructions and demonstrations in solving Math problems.

2. Grammar, Writing, Spelling and Vocabulary

3. Science

Extracurricular Activities

Since your child will be cooped up all day at home, there is also a need for extracurricular activities that are both fun and educational. Here are just some of the many activities you and your children can do at home:

  1. Baking or cooking: Bring out your children’s inner chef by cooking or baking their favorite food at home. You should let your kids participate in some of the simple activities like shaping cookies, molding the dough and others. You need not worry about not having cookbooks since there are thousands of recipes you can search online.
  1. Cross stitching or just stitching torn clothes: You can improve your child’s hand and eye coordination by teaching them to stitch. However, you must warn them and guide them so they could be extra careful in handling sharp needles.
  1. Gardening: Teach your kids how to value life and Scientific facts through planting and gardening.

Homeschooling your children is never easy, the results will surprise you! All you need is patience and everything will fall into place.
