The Mommies Reviews

Charlie and I wanted to share 2 Holidays celebrating 2 different #foods we’ve never had when falls on October 8 National Fluffernutter Day #FluffernutterDay& National Pierogi Day #NationalPierogiDay. Have you had a Fluffernutter Sandwich or Pierogi’s? If so, what did you think of them and why?

National Fluffernutter Day – is celebrated every October 8th, when people celebrate National Fluffernutter Day, a sticky, sweet tribute to the iconic sandwich made with peanut butter and marshmallow fluff. A nostalgic nod to childhood lunches and New England culinary tradition.

What’s a Fluffernutter?

A Fluffernutter is a sandwich made by spreading peanut butter and marshmallow crème between two slices of bread. Doesn’t that just sound yummy? Not? Did you know the term was coined in 1960 by an advertising agency for Durkee-Mower, the company behind Marshmallow Fluff? I didn’t.

How to Celebrate

  • Make the classic Fluffernutter Sandwich or try creative twists like adding bananas, bacon, or using pretzel buns.
  • Bake with Fluffernutter: Creating cupcakes, cookies, or milkshakes which are all fair game.
  • Host a tasting party: Challenge friends to invent the most delicious variation of a Fluffernutter Sandwich they can come up with.
  • Share online: Post your creation with the hashtag #FluffernutterDay.

A Bit of History

  • 1917: Archibald Query of Somerville, MA created Marshmallow Creme.
  • 1920: Durkee-Mower acquired the recipe and branded it as Marshmallow Fluff.
  • 1960: The term “Fluffernutter” was born.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a lifelong fan or trying Fluffernutter for the first time, Fluffernutter Day is all about indulging in gooey goodness and sharing smiles. If you want help crafting a fun social post or recipe idea for the day? Leave me a comment and I will get to work on what you need.
