Preparing Children for the First Day of School

Both my niece and Payton should be starting kindergarten this year although due to different reasons neither of them will be able to begin school when Charlie goes back to school this year. Yesterday my sister called to let me know Jason has been working on his homework like Charlie does so he will be prepared for school.

As I talked to my sister, I could tell she was frustrated and upset and that she didn’t know how to comfort Jason when he sees the school buses and all he wants to talk about is beginning school or talking about Charlie going back to school and he needs to do his homework so he is prepared for what he will be learning.

After talking to David and letting him know how bad I felt about Jason not being able to go to school. When David reminded me, Jason could do like Charlie did and they could enroll him in classes at the Recreation Center as they host a Pre-K class run by our friends Mrs. Dottie who was Charlie’s teacher because he couldn’t go to Pre-Kindergarten either.

As I thought about it, I couldn’t see Alyssa Jason’s mom taking him to class each day. So I decided to look through Charlies homeschool books and see what I could find that Jason could use if his mom would teach him. Or his grandmother if she wasn’t too busy. As I began to pull stuff out Charlie asked me not to give his stuff away as he might need it.

I decided to look at products for Pre K and Kindergarten on Amazon to see what I could find Jason could use in his school if his mom would Homeschool him. As I looked around I also picked out items they would be able to use with Lily. Because I didn’t want to leave her out and she doesn’t like being left behind and likes to do the same things Charlie and Jason does.

I thought I would share some of the books I picked out for Lily and Jason. One the items arrive I will share them with my mother-in-law and she can order some for Payton for her mom to work with her in. Although the sad part is I don’t think her mom will work with her which is sad because Payton is willing to learn if someone would take the time to sit down and work with her.

Schoolies: My First Day of School

Spencer is very excited. He’s also just a little bit worried about his first day of school. But, as he sees friendly faces on the school bus, enjoys his first lessons, and meets new friends during recess, by the end of the day, there’s only one thing Spencer can say: I like school! A reassuring story about one of the most important days in any child’s life, seen through the eyes of the Schoolish.

What to Expect at Preschool (What to Expect Kids)

Growing Up Just Got Easier…

With the help of Angus, the lovable Answer Dog, best-selling author Heidi Murkoff extends a hand to children and parents as they tackle life’s first experiences together.

It’s hard to believe, but your child’s starting preschool. Even if it’s just for a couple of hours two or three days a week, it seems such a big step for someone in such little sneakers. Not to worry — we’re here to help prepare both of you for that step. We’ll answer your child’s questions about what preschool is like, what preschoolers do, who teachers are, and how they help to make preschool such a fun and special place — so that the first day of preschool will be a day you’ll both look forward to.

The Night Before Preschool

It’s the night before preschool, and a little boy named Billy is so nervous he can’t fall asleep. The friends he makes the next day at school give him a reason not to sleep the next night, either: he’s too excited about going back! The book’s simple rhyming text and sweet illustrations will soothe any child’s fears about the first day of school.

Sophie’s New School

Sophie is a happy, sparkly girl and she has so much fun at home! But then… One morning, her Mommy comes into her room and says that it’s time for school. Sophie isn’t sure if she wants to go. Will she feel as cozy and safe at school as she does at home? Join Sophie through her first two days of school, and discover with her, how much fun school can be. With sweet illustrations and a fun upbeat style, this book will make you smile, laugh and generally make you and your child feel GOOD (and really good about school!)

The 12 Days of Preschool

Count the first twelve days of preschool with this fun-filled picture book inspired by “The 12 Days of Christmas”—perfect for fans of Natasha Wing’s “The Night Before . . .” series! Includes stickers for a great school-time reward.

Celebrate the first 12 days of preschool! On the first day of preschool, all the kids learn how to share ONE fuzzy teddy bear. On the second day, the kids share TWO toy trains. The third day? THREE tricycles! Each of the first 12 fun-filled days of preschool is illuminated in this cumulative rhyming storybook based on “The 12 Days of Christmas.”

Preschoolers and their parents and teachers will love spotting all the fun things to find in the classroom. It’s a great way to calm first-day-of-school jitters and to reinforce the idea of sharing by talking about what to expect once preschool is underway. And the book includes stickers – perfect treats for the first 12 days of preschool.

Preschool Scholar Workbook, Ages 3-5, tracing letters & numbers, learning shapes & colors, animal names, playful motivation

A pleased parent had this to say about Preschool Scholar Workbook: This is the first workbook that I bought for my 3-year-old son. He loved the pages and asked every day to do some work in his book! I’ve bought the big workbook for preschool and we just started it. I’ve also got a 1-year-old and she loves to watch us as work in the books!

Help your preschooler get ready for a great start with this Preschool Scholar Workbook. Follow the lovable Lulu on a trip through the Grand Zoo, as an iguana, quetzal, unicorn, and other critter friends make reading and writing ABCs so much fun! Kids will enjoy learning the names of the animals that start with the letters of the alphabet. They will also practice tracing letters and numbers, learning shapes and colors, identifying same and different, plus matching, sequencing, and following directions. Lulu’s jokes and fun facts add smiles and learning opportunities. Examples include ‘What kind of cat lives in the ocean?’ and ‘Butterflies have transparent wings and taste with their feet.’ Find a lively selection of reading readiness, early math, and beginning science activities in our zoo-tastic Preschool Scholar; the skill focus is listed at the bottom of every page for easy reference.

Bold, colorful illustrations help little learners stay focused and motivated, and when they are all done, they can fill out the completion reward certificate and display it with pride! A Parent Guide inside the front cover offers helpful tips for maximizing the learning, and Activities to Share inside the back cover suggest fun, easy, creative activities that get kids stretching their senses and critical thinking skills. They include ‘Sun Photographs,’ ‘Kids in the Kitchen,’ ‘Musical Buttons,’ and more. This workbook is an excellent size for tucking into a tote or backpack and turning road trips and wait times for learning opportunities. Create curiosity and a love of learning.

Kids love the color, characters, and ‘room’ to play. School Zone workbooks deliver all that and so much more. Almost 40 years ago the company responded to parents need for tools to help reinforce in-school learning. Workbooks continue to be just the right combination of play and practice, making them excellent, teacher-created, parent-approved resources. Writing by hand fires up specific parts of a child’s brain, improving a child s ability not only to remember what he or she learns but to think of new ideas. Think of workbooks as analog devices because workbook practice can help kids develop fine motor skills, focus on the task at hand, and learn at their own pace.

Use this Preschool Scholar Workbook to create curiosity and a love of learning and help little ones build skills for school success. Reading readiness develops as preschoolers practice their ABCs and beginning sounds. They also begin to print and write by tracing letters, and they use positional words, rhyming words, and beginning sounds. Preschoolers identify shapes and colors and sharpen visual discrimination and critical thinking by recognizing patterns, establishing cause and effect, and sequencing, sorting and classifying. The activities also give eye-hand coordination and the ability to follow directions an excellent workout. A solid foundation in basic skills builds confidence, and motivating kids and helping them value learning gives them a big advantage inside and outside of school
