The Buddy Holly Show

I would like to remind you Garland Civic Theatre is presenting The Buddy Holly Story during the 60 Year Anniversary of the Famed Musician’s Death.

Charlie, David and I were able to see the Buddy Holly Show the other night. I must tell you I loved the this play and seeing Musicians I was never able to see because they were gone before I was old enough to go to concerts. David also wasn’t able to see these artists. Charlie was surprised to hear this because he thinks we were born when the DINOSAURS roamed the EARTH.. LOL

Charlie wasn’t sure he wanted to attend The Buddy Holly Show even though he knew the music and the singers. Which we had studied in our Homeschool Music Class. Once Charlie got the program and saw they would be playing Ritchie ValensLa Bamba. Charlie couldn’t wait for the Concert to begin.

David asked Charlie why he changed his mind. Charlie said don’t you know that La Bamba is one of moms favorite movies. We watch it all the time. Now I will get to see and hear someone perform Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and also Ritchie Valens music in person and hear them perform the musicians music. I am telling you I have raised my son the right way. Charlie loves all the old timey music and Musician’s.

Charlie, David and I went into the Garland Civic Theater and sat down. Our seats were perfect we could see the whole theater from our seats. Once the concert begin Charlie had so much fun listening to the music and singing along to the songs he knew. Once the show finished Charlie asked if we would be able to come back before they closed The Buddy Holly Show.

I didn’t tell Charlie we would or wouldn’t although with the show playing until February and David back at work. I wouldn’t mind purchasing tickets for us to return to see The Buddy Holly Show again. Only this time I would like to bring my mother n law and also my sister with me because I know they would enjoy the show.

As well as watching Charlie and David and seeing how excited they became during the event. I loved how they included the last concert Buddy Holly performed at and the singers he sang with that evening. It was nice to know the actors wanted the audience to sing and dance during the event.

I looked around that night during the event I could see both men and women of all ages having fun during the play. People of all ages were singing and clapping there hands throughout the play. If we were still Homeschooling Charlie full time and we had been in a Homeschool Co/Op I would have wanted to bring the students to the Buddy Holly Show on a Field Trip.

Charlie let his Music Teacher know he attended The Buddy Holly Show and she enjoyed learning about the event and plans on taking her husband to see the show. Then Charlie told his teacher Mrs. Shutek about the show and his principal overheard Charlie.

Mr. Brown had so much fun learning about The Buddy Holly Show and the singers and seeing all Charlie knew about the musicians that he is thinking of adding a afterschool music class where the children can study music of all kinds. To keep kids off the streets.

Mr. Brown asked Charlie if he would bring his program in because he wanted to share it with the teachers and see if they would be interested in going to see The Buddy Holly Show one evening. Because Mr. Brown has them do something once a month to de-stress from teaching.

I would like to remind you if your teaching your children in Homeschool or just to help them get ahead that these plays are perfect Field Trips and a great way to teach your students music. Or reading as they can write out reports on the show.

Heck they could even come up with a Newspaper and review plays and movies. Then they could share the news with there friends and family. If they wanted to start there own business they could even sell ads in there newspaper.

Then go door to door and deliver there papers. Or find local businesses to let them place there newspapers inside for people to pick up and read. If there artist they could even do a Comic Section. Or they could ask a friend to help them with that section.

January 25-February 10, 2018.

Charles Hardin Holley, known as Buddy Holly, was an American musician, singer-songwriter and record producer who was a central and pioneering figure of mid-1950s rock and roll. He was born in Lubbock, Texas, to a musical family during the Great Depression, and learned to play guitar and sing alongside his siblings. His style was influenced by gospel music.

I loved leaving The Buddy Holly Show that evening and hearing all kinds of questions Charlie and David had. Once we were home we were able to research the singers and plan a Staycation to Lubbock, Texas where we will be visiting World Famous Buddy Holly Center and West Texas Walk of Fame.

Buddy Holly—was a pioneer of the rock ‘n’ roll scene, and influenced some of the greatest artists of all time. In his honor, loving family, friends and loyal fans have shared Buddy Holly memorabilia creating the world famous Buddy Holly Center, a favorite among the Lubbock attractions.

Buddy Holly is a rock ‘n’ roll icon whose talent and sound influenced other rock greats like The Beatles, Elvis Costello, Don McLean, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.

Holly may be Lubbock’s original rock legend, but the “Hub City’s” tradition of creating fantastic musicians continues today, and the center has grown to welcome these rising stars.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
