Go Skateboarding Day

Go Skateboarding Day

I can’t wait to tell Charlie its Go Skateboarding Day which he can do for Homeschool PE this morning. I just wish Charlie’s best friend B (Bradley) was home so they could go together.

But B is still at his dads and there is no, way no, how I am going to try and Skate Boarding with Charlie. David can’t either because of his knees leaving Charlie to Skate Board by himself which he does all the time.

It is a beautiful June day and the weather is perfect. It’s time to have fun. Grab your skateboard and hit the sidewalk (or road), because today is Go Skateboarding Day. Skateboarding is a popular sport, that just about anyone can enjoy.

It should come as no surprise that skateboarding originated on the West coast of the U.S. Can you believe Skateboards first appeared in the 1940s? Skateboards quickly gained popularity across the U.S. and they have gained popularity worldwide. A skateboard is a popular gift for Christmas and birthdays.

June 21 was selected as the date to celebrate this special event, because it is the longest day of the year…. more time to spend on your skateboard! Isn’t that cool?

Go Skateboarding Day was created to make this sport more accessible to everyone, and to make Skateboarding popular world wide. On this date, the IASC annually holds skateboarding events in major Cities around the world.

It’s a cinch to celebrate this Holiday…. simply go skateboarding. Participating with a friend will make the day even more pleasurable.

National Sea Shell Day

June 21 is Seashell Day | Sea shells, Day, National holidays

Today is the first day of Summer. It’s time to hit the Beach, soak up some rays, and search for Seashells. If only I could.. It makes perfect sense that today is also National Sea Shell Day.

Seashells are found on Beaches around the world. As they crumble and break down, Sea Shells help to form the very Beach where you love to sun bathe and swim.

Beach goers young and old, love to collect Seashells. We take Seashells home and put them on display, as a reminder of those warm, sunny and fun days on the beach.

What’s your favorite seashell? A conch, a clam, a sand dollar or a seahorse? Chances are, you collect them all. As you pick them off the beach, make sure the shell is empty and not alive.

When in doubt, gently, place the Seashell back in the ocean. With a little luck, the tide will take the little fella safely into Sea, and not back onto the beach.

The best time to search for Sea Shells is from an hour before to an hour after low tide. Most Seashells can be found along the high tide mark. During peak Summer season, thousands of people are on the beach, looking to beat you to the treasure trove of unbroken Seashells. The most successful Sea Shell hunt occurs at first light, when Seashells from the night before are most plentiful.

Did You Know? The Guinness World Book of Records has a category for the largest human image of a Seashell. It included 1.093 people. I can’t wait to show Charlie.

The History and Origin of National Sea Shell Day:

National Sea Shell Day was created and is promoted by “The Beaches of St. Myers and Sanibel”. The special day was created in 2016 and is now celebrated annually.

National Selfie Day

National Selfie Day 2018

Today is National Selfie Day and its a cinch to participate in this Holiday. And, it’s fun! Simply take your smartphone out of your pocket or purse, and take a selfie.

Better yet, get a couple friends or your pets, and take a selfie with them. Make sure to put on as big smile. And, don’t forget to post it on Facebook sharing your Selfie.

Selfies are extremely popular. Millions of them are taken each and every day. It kind of makes you wonder why we need a special day to encourage us to take a selfie.

Most people believe selfies originated when smartphones came on the scene. Smartphones have built-in, hi pixel cameras, with a lens on both sides of the camera, making it easy to take a selfie.

In actuality, selfies were around for a long, long time, they just weren’t called “selfies”. Back in the day of film based cameras, some cameras had a delay feature on the camera.

You could set the camera up on a table or tripod, aim it, and press the delay button (usually ten seconds). Then, you had to run to where the camera was aimed and pose. They were not called selfies. Although, some people referred to them as “self-portraits”.

The History and Origin of National Selfie Day:

Our research did not find the creator of this special day. This day was originated sometime after the arrival of smartphones with built-in cameras with the capability to take hand-held selfies. At, most this holiday has been around since the early 2000’s.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
