Black-eyed Pea

There are restaurants that have a special place in our hearts. For me one of those establishments is Black-eyed Pea. My mom loved eating here and always wanted there RANCH-STYLE PORK CHOPS and Corn Bread.

I can see here asking if she should order the RANCH-STYLE PORK CHOPS or a Vegetable Plate which we both love because Black-eyed Pea has so many Veggies to chose from including Baked Potato and Salad.

When she became sick and was passing away she asked me if she came to Texas if I would bring her. I let her know I would but she passed away before I could.

On the days when I was missing my mom or my daughter David would take me here for Lunch or Dinner as there was a Black-eyed Pea in Hurst, Texas. One night we went and they had closed down.

I was devastated and couldn’t believe Black-eyed Pea had closed. They were a part of so many celebrations not only with David or my mom but also Suzzane who loved there Chicken Fried Steak.

The lord works in mysterious ways as we were in Arlington the other day and Charlie was hungry and he wanted Ribs. We stopped at Bone Daddy’s which was so good.

After eating we drove around David and I saw Black-eyed Pea. I was so excited I couldn’t wait to come back. It’s taken me long than I wanted to get her but I did last night.

I walked in and Prayed I wouldn’t be disappointed and from the moment I walked in I felt like I was at home. Our waiter Archie went out of his way to make us feel at home.

Opening my menu was like finding a long lost friend. Nothing had changed and Archie let me know they used the same recipes but this was the only Black-eyed Pea open.

I knew David would order Rice and Red Beans and I had to order the Bread Dressing and both of these were just as we had remembered. Our Rolls and Cornbread arrived.

David asked Charlie to try the Cornbread and let me tell you Charlie was hooked and even asked to bring Cornbread home which is unusual as he doesn’t usually eat Cornbread or Rolls when we are out.

I tried the Rolls and could have make a meal out of them. I asked Archie if I should get Meatloaf or Roast. Archie said Roast and this was out of the world.

I ordered CLASSIC SLOW COOKED POT ROAST and Black-eyed Peas and Mashed Potatoes with my dinner. I enjoyed everything but neither David or Charlie would have liked the Black-eyed Pease as they have Onions in them which didn’t bother me. But isn’t the way I usually eat them.

CLASSIC SLOW COOKED POT ROAST

We take our time & you can taste it. Our classic pot roast is slow
roasted with carrots & onions for hours, then topped with savory
brown gravy. Includes your choice of two vegetables. 10.99

David and Charlie ordered a Wrap which they liked but David said he wished it had had a little more Chicken in the wrap. The Fries was fried just right and wasn’t greasy.

We arrived during Happy Hour and there is a full bar so David was able to order a Draft Beer which was nice and cold. I had Sweet Iced Tea and Charlie a Dr. Pepper.

I can’t wait to return as I want to try the Chicken Fried Steak and the THE GREAT AMERICAN SAMPLER. David wants to try the MARKET MUSHROOMS and Charlie want’s to order a Dessert which is Chocolate Cake. I would like to try the Fried Pie they make. I just hope they have Apple for the Pie.

If you haven’t eaten at Black-eyed Pea I hope you give them a chance because you will not be disappointed. For those that like to go out for lunch try the DAILY LUNCH SPECIALS (DAILY FEATURES). Or there LUNCH SPECIALS. I plan on returning for the Chicken Pot Pie and Chicken and Dumplings. Don’t these sound yummy?

SOUTHWESTERN CHICKEN WRAP was so good and I like how they allowed us to take ingredients off Charlie and David wouldn’t eat like Avocado. I also say they have Flat Bread which Charlie loves and the next time we come I am going to ask if they will use it for Charlie’s Wrap. I can’t wait to see what David thinks about that. I bet he wants to try it as well.

I ordered a side RED BEANS & RICE and at other Black-eyed Peas the bowl was so small we would have to order two or three bowls but not here. David got enough that he had to bring his meal home.

I just need to remember to ask them to not put all the Onions on the top of the Beans and Rice as David can’t eat Onions. I tasted the Beans and they ahd a good taste but a kick to them as they are Cajun. There was ample Sausage and David said he wished he knew what kind it was as he would like to order it for our home.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
