It can be like pulling teeth to get Charlie to read. Then other times I can not get Charlie to quit reading. Is it like this with your children? This week in Homeschooling Charlie has asked to watch the movie Wonder DVD and I am going to have Charlie read Wonder.

Then Charlie can compare the movie to the book and do a report on the differences he noticed. For our Field Trip this week we will be taking a trip to Half Price books to look for other books in the Wonder series especially The Wonder Journal.

Wonder [DVD]

Description

Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade.

As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.

Wonder

Kindness brings us together no matter how far apart we are. Millions of people have read the #1 New York Times bestseller WONDER and fallen in love with Auggie Pullman, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary face. A perfect read for back to school — no matter what that looks like!

The book that inspired the Choose Kind movement, a major motion picture, and the critically acclaimed graphic novel White Bird.

I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse.

August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face.

WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.

Wonder the Adult Edition

The North East is a mystery to readers, basic unfamiliarity compounded by a paucity of written material on the region. Lands of Early Dawn, North East of India seeks to redress the balance, journeying into the heart of the region, painting scenes of breathtaking natural beauty which are juxtaposed with an earnest concern with the hopes of the people and their trials.

Winter mists in Mizoram, pine and fir shrouded walks of Meghalaya, Assam’s silver girded rail bridges and shimmering fishing nets the narrative is threaded with brilliant images, with glimpses into the region’s history and social structures.

365 Days of Wonder: Mr. Browne’s Book of Precepts

WONDER IS NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING JULIA ROBERTS AND JACOB TREMBLAY!

Over 8 million people have read the #1 New York Times bestseller Wonder—the book that inspired the Choose Kind movement—and have fallen in love with Auggie Pullman, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary face.

In Wonder, readers were introduced to memorable English teacher Mr. Browne and his love of precepts.

This companion book features conversations between Mr. Browne and Auggie, Julian, Summer, Jack Will, and others, giving readers a special peek at their lives after Wonder ends.

Mr. Browne’s essays and correspondence are rounded out by a precept for each day of the year—drawn from popular songs to children’s books to inscriptions on Egyptian tombstones to fortune cookies.

Mr. Browns selections celebrate the goodness of human beings, the strength of people’s hearts, and the power of people’s wills.

There’s something for everyone here, with words of wisdom from such noteworthy people as Anne Frank, Martin Luther King Jr., Confucius, Goethe, Sappho—and over 100 readers of Wonder who sent R. J. Palacio their own precepts.

The Julian Chapter

The Julian Chapter
From the moment they met in the page of Wonder, it was clear that Auggie and Julian were never going to be friends.

Julian is nasty, mean, and downright cruel to Auggie. But why? Is Julian just a born bully who is mad that things have changed in his school? Or is there something more to his story?

And does he have a chance for redemption? In The Julian Chapter, readers will finally get to see the world through Julian’s eyes and get a glimpse at his not-so-straightforward side of the story.

Over 2 million people have read the New York Times bestseller Wonder and have fallen in love with Auggie Pullman, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary face.

Listeners have also been given a special look at another side of Auggie’s story with The Julian Chapter and a peek at his life before Beecher Prep in Pluto.

In Shingaling, the third Wonder Story, they’ll listen about life as a fifth grader at Beecher Prep through the eyes of Charlotte, the girl who had been chosen to be Auggie’s “welcome” buddy.

Listeners will not only learn more about Charlotte and her budding friendship with fan-favorite, Summer (they solve a mystery together), but how the girls at Beecher Prep react to Auggie attending their school for the first time, and how Charlotte came to write the precept she used at the end of Wonder, “It’s not enough to be friendly. You have to be a friend.”

White Bird

White Bird: A Wonder Story by [R. J. Palacio]

Soon to be a major motion picture, starring Helen Mirren and Gillian Anderson!

Inspired by her blockbuster phenomenon Wonder, R. J. Palacio makes her graphic novel debut with an unforgettable, Sydney Taylor Book Award-winning story of the power of kindness and unrelenting courage in a time of war.

In R. J. Palacio’s bestselling collection of stories Auggie & Me, which expands on characters in Wonder, readers were introduced to Julian’s grandmother, Grandmère.

Here, Palacio makes her graphic novel debut with Grandmère’s heartrending story: how she, a young Jewish girl, was hidden by a family in a Nazi-occupied French village during World War II; how the boy she and her classmates once shunned became her savior and best friend.

Sara’s harrowing experience movingly demonstrates the power of kindness to change hearts, build bridges, and even save lives. As Grandmère tells Julian, “It always takes courage to be kind, but in those days, such kindness could cost you everything.”

With poignant symbolism and gorgeous artwork that brings Sara’s story out of the past and cements it firmly in this moment in history, White Bird is sure to captivate anyone who was moved by the book Wonder or the blockbuster movie adaptation and its message.
