I would like to welcome you to Monday morning, as we begin a brand-new week, I thought I’d share a new book with you. The book is The Lives and Deaths of Harry Blunt by Obediah Keane, the pen name of author Tina Konstant. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Before I begin my review, I want to mention that this novel centers on death, the afterlife, and a fictional system of judgment. It is written as imaginative fantasy and should not be viewed as a biblical or theological interpretation of what happens after we die. As a Christian, I read it simply as a work of fiction. Because of its themes and subject matter, I believe this book is best suited for mature readers.

When this book arrived, I immediately thought of David and Charlie. They’ve always been intrigued by stories about the afterlife, while those kinds of books usually aren’t my first choice. Since David sometimes struggles with reading, we sat down together and read parts of the book aloud. Charlie would join us when he could, so it became something we shared as a family throughout the week.

At first, David and Charlie found the story a little difficult to follow because the world-building is so different from anything we’ve read before. Once the characters and the unique afterlife began to make sense, though, they were hooked. It quickly became one of those books where we wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next. Even though the subject matter isn’t one I normally gravitate toward, I found myself laughing at several of Harry’s adventures and enjoying the author’s creative imagination.

About the book: The Lives and Deaths of Harry Blunt: A Supernatural Family Life Novel (Port Harker Book 1)

An afterlife sentence. An innocent hanging in the balance. Can this overprotective dad make things right from beyond the grave?

Harry Blunt is in a panic. Inconveniently and recently deceased, he’s facing cosmic justice for the crime of “interfering with the development of another soul” and babying his youngest child. Unless he can gain a last-minute reprieve, his unfortunate daughter is condemned to die in three days.

Making a desperate deal in exchange for a vengeful favor, Harry returns to the land of the living as a middle-aged woman. As shenanigans and chaos ensue, he fears he’s running out of time to give his girl’s eternal soul a second chance… and complete his side of an utterly unholy bargain.

Will Harry’s meddling with the natural order doom them both to oblivion?

The Lives and Deaths of Harry Blunt is the quirky first book in The Port Harker supernatural family life series. If you like slightly deranged characters (Betuine Harker, Judge Cammie Sweet, Grim Reaper, and Karma herself), original world-building, and satirical twists and turns, then you’ll enjoy Obediah Keane’s final destination.

Note from the author

2nd Edition: Thanks to wonderful reader feedback, this second edition ends when it should end, and not with all the jibber-jabber prepping you for Book 2.
Author name: For some reason, I thought writing under a pen name would be a good thing. I found it too messy, so the rest of the series is written under my own name.
AI Policy: All books and story collections that come from me will always be 100% AI free. I use AI for copywriting on blurbs and web pages, but all stories (short or long) are now, and always will be, all human (Zero AI).

Meet the Author: Obediah Keane

Obediah Keane is the pen name for Tina Konstant.

When Tina was born, her parents were expecting a boy, so her name was Gavin David for three days. It seems fitting that her pen name is Obediah. Friends call her Obi.

The Lives and Deaths of Harry Blunt” is Tina’s first novel writing as Obediah Keane. She has nine other novels in a drawer that will never see the light of day. Port Harker is the first series to make it out the door.

A large part of her hereafter imaginings hopes there’s more than emptiness or the standard biblical “Heaven and Hell.”

“The Lives and Deaths of Harry Blunt” by Obediah Keane is a whimsical paranormal adventure where a father’s afterlife journey challenges cosmic rules to save his daughter—a captivating blend of humor, fantasy, and heartfelt family dynamics.”
