As a child growing up not only in my home but in my mom’s parents’ home Wrestling has always been a big thing for not only my family but also David’s and now Charlie and even Suzzane liked wrestling. Wrestling is —something that never really comes and goes, it just grows with us in different seasons of life.
Even now, wrestling is still part of our everyday normal.
Charlie is almost 19 now, but wrestling is still very much his thing. He’s waiting on the new wrestling game to drop, and he can still name his favorite wrestlers without hesitation. And yes—he still has his wrestling figures.
They’re in the closet, but they are still a part of his room, and he refuses to get rid of them. At this point, I don’t even try to convince him otherwise. At times I see Charlie and even Bradley get the wrestlers out to see which ones he still has.
David still watches Monday Night Raw, and if Charlie is home or there is a wrestler or match, I want to see I will watch it with David or Charlie. Wrestling is one of those things that just naturally stays part of the house rhythm.
Wrestling is always on somewhere, or being talked about, or tied back to something we’ve watched together over the years. The Von Erichs and The Freebirds have always been part of that conversation for us too—especially with the Texas wrestling history and how deeply rooted it is here.
And me? I’ve never really minded it. I’ll flip through wrestling books, read alongside them, and honestly still learn things even now. We still have wrestling books in our family library, and they get pulled down more often than you’d think—sometimes for learning, sometimes for fun, and sometimes just because someone wants to remember a moment or a move.
That’s really why this list matters to me. It isn’t just about “adding books to a lesson plan.” It’s about something that’s already part of our home life—something we’ve shared for years in different ways.
