Charlie and I couldn’t wait to dive into The Tuttle Twins and the Miraculous Pencil because we wanted to see what made the #pencil miraculous. Would you want to know as well? Join us as The Tuttle Twins head to school on the school bus.
They can’t wait to arrive because of a field trip they might be going on because they had been learning about the “economy” a teaching moment for families #homeschooling” there students. The teacher wanted to take them to someplace that sells products.
They decided to visit a factory and they might get a “souvenir” which would have been one of our #Spelling words if we had still been #Homeschooling. The kids were disappointed when they pulled up to the factory. Do they change there minds. You will have to invest in a copy of to find out.
The man hands them a pencil and ask if its easy or hard to make. What do you think? Then we learn about a #family tree” which Charlie and I would have made in our Art Class. The man uses the family tree to have the children describe where a pencil comes from.
We learn about rope and #hempplants another #teachingmoment and also could be a #FieldTrip to see Hemp Plants in person. We also learn about the people who helped make the pencil including cooks and grocery store clerks.
Next we meet Mary who usually works in London but is in South Korea places to study if your studying Countries like Charlie and I did leading to another #teachingmoment. We learn a new word ‘graphite”. We learn about different parts of the pencil and the States Mary visits.
Now, we go to the ‘factory floor” then they learn the pencils family tree is very very large. Were reminded that without tools and machines there wouldn’t be pencils and we couldn’t get things done could we? TNext we discuss what the kids would want to be when they grow up.
Before you ask how does that have to do with making a pencil well you will need to read The Turtle Twins and the Miracoulus Pencil to find out how. Now, I have another #teachingmoment for you. What is “spontaneous order”. Make sure you check out what the man tells them before they head home.
