I don’t know about you but when I hear of the “Golden Rule” I think of the Bible. I couldn’t wait to dive into this book and see if I was right or not. I wanted to remind you we still have 6 more books to share with you.
Come along with me for the story of The Tuttle Twins and the Golden Rule. If you saw the cover of the book it looks like the Twins are upset with each other. I wonder why? The Twins are heading to Summer Camp like childen will be doing here in the next couple week as school gets out for the Summer.
Did you ever go to Summer Camp? Suzzane and I did but not Charlie or David. The Twins favorite teacher Mrs. Miner and her husband was there to help Chef Ron as Camp Couselors this year. The Twins learned there is 4 Camps.
2 for the boys and 2 for the girls. Bear and Rattlesnakes and Eagle and Turtle Cabins, Can you guess which camp was for the girls and which one for the boys? Ethan was in the Eagle Cabin and Emily was in the Rattlesnakes Cabin. If that had been me I wouldn’t have slept. Would you?
We learn camp experiances will be competitions and there cabinmates would also be there teammates. There will be ribbons of different colors which will be atached to the Flag. In recognition of your performance and teamwork.
One pf the girls in Emily’s cabin said she thought Julian might be a bullly and they should be careful around him. The first race was a caneo race and you should see what happens to The Rattlesnacks Caneo. Of the next couple days nothing went right for Emily’s team.
She begins to suspect something isn’t right. Emily’s team decides to get back at the Eagles. Next up was the obstacle course. This time the Rattlesnacks win. Did they win fairly? That night the Rattlesnacks sneak into the Eagles Cabin and set up obstacles for them.
The Eagles missed breakfast. Today’s race is a “orienteering race” a teaching moment for my family. For this race they needed a compass? Charlie and I will pick on up at our Sport Store to practice reading the Comapss. Do you want to work with us?
In this race they have to do math problems which could be incorporated in a #Homeschool Math Class. The Team learns Julian changed the messages so the other Campers would go the wrong way. The team decides they don’t like cheating to win.
The Counselors get onto the Horses back to go get the lost Campers. Chef Ron tells everyone to gather everyone as the Sun sets because it’s time for a lesson. Chef Ron was dressed like a Indian. At the Fire that night they hear drums.
Mr. and Mrs. Miner are dressed like Native Americans as well. The Warriors represent “conflicts of people”. To see what this is you must read The Tuttle Twins and the Golden Rule The kids was asked why they fought and to find out why you will need to pick up a copy of the book.
We learn what “fear is and also a aggressor”. Then we learn ‘revenge and justice. Now you need to find out what “blowback” is. We learn to “calm the fear in the enemy” which is the first time I’ve heard that. How about you?
We hear the word “parchment” another learning moment for my family. No we learn what non-aggression is. Can you guess what “kindness, respect and prosperity” have to do with the story? We learn about the “arm of friendship”.
Next they go on a hike and get a gift but to find out what it is you will need to read The Tuttle Twins and the Golden Rule. It begins to rain and the Camp begins to flood. Check out The Tuttle Twins and the Golden Rule to see what happens.
Now, they all have Smores which can be made in the Microwave. Did you know that? While reading the story make Smores to share with your children. I’ve included a recipe below. Don’t forget to read about the Author in the back of the book and the illustartor.
Even if your not #Hoeschooling your children you should check out the glossary and also the discussion questions the Author left for us. Then check out the Activity/Workbook here.
About the book:
Ethan and Emily Tuttle embark on their first Summer camp adventure where they learn the lesson of the Golden Rule firsthand.
Competing teams turn into fighting rivals, but Chief Ron and his camp counselors help the twins and their teammates learn the dangers of aggression, revenge, and blowback—and why peace and friendship are important!
People throughout the world strongly disagree on many things, yet there is one universal principle Golden Rule as its often called upon which many people do agree: we should treat others the way we want them to treat us.
