I thought I would share a unique lady I learned about when researching #Holidays happening in September when thinking outside the box you can teach your students about when #Homeschooling them. Join me even though September 1st has passed and let’s celebrate Emma M. Nutt Day #EmmaMNuttDay.

I believe we should make Emma M. Nutt Day on September 1st a fun educational homeschool experience! Don’t you? Did you know Emma was the first female telephone operator? She was hired in Boston on September 1, 1878? EmmaM Nutt is a trailblazer who helped open doors for women in telecommunications. Here’s a themed lesson plan to celebrate her legacy:

Reading & Writing

  • Topic: Biography & Creative Writing
  • Activity: Read a short biography of Emma M. Nutt and write a fictional diary entry from her perspective on her first day at work.
  • Extension: Use writing prompts like “What challenges did Emma face?” or “How would you feel being the first woman in a new job?”
