Charlie called me this morning. I showed Charlie the cover of Milo’s Superpower: Spreading Joy and Kindness, One Smile at a Time which Charlie said reminded him of his best friend Bradley and himself. I agree with Charlie as the boys are using each other as a back rest while thinking of something to do.
Inside the book we get to see the little boy’s family I wish I knew. I love how we get to meet Rocky and Hugo thanks to the Author. The book is about Milo a 4-year-old little boy whose grandpa says has a superpower called “The Power of Joy”.
Milo has a brother named Oliver who was 7 and would get upset and frustrated when things didn’t go his way. When Oliver got upset he would get his way which made Milo feel invisible. They go to the Park with there Grandpa.
Milo ask him why Oliver always gets all the attention. The grandfather tells Milo you have a gift your smile which everyone doesn’t have. Oliver calls to Milo and says he is going to jump off the swing. Into a pile of mud he goes.
Oliver is embarrassed. Milo runs over with a smile and tells Oliver it was a great landing. Soon all three of them are laughing. Mom has them turn the tv off and Oliver gets upset but Milo makes Oliver happy again.
Milo began to use his Superpower to help others who were upset feel better. Doing this also made Milo happy. If you enjoyed Milo’s Superpower: Spreading Joy and Kindness, One Smile at a Time as much as I did check them out on social media where you will find discussion questions, fun enrichment activates and any artwork you create based on the story which can be done in #Homeschool Classes.
About the book:

Milo’s Superpower is a heartwarming children’s story about a little boy with an extraordinary gift- his ability to spread joy. At just four years old, Milo discovers that his smile and laughter have the power to brighten even the darkest moments.
Meet the Author: Mark Perloe

Dr. Mark Perloe, after three decades of helping families grow through fertility treatments, now embraces retirement as a heartwarming new chapter. For 32 years, he served as a reproductive endocrinologist, supporting countless patients on their journey to parenthood. Today, Mark finds his greatest joy in the laughter of his two grandsons, rediscovering the world through their curious eyes.
Retirement has also allowed Mark to share his warmth in new ways. He leads an online support group for men with prostate cancer, offering guidance and hope. Mark’s passion for helping others extends to his beloved therapy dog, Andrew. Together, they bring comfort and joy to an airport, senior living facilities, and a school for children on the spectrum, spreading smiles wherever they go.
Through these visits, Mark realized a profound truth: every child longs to be seen and celebrated for their unique self. This insight inspired his first children’s book, drawing on family experiences and joyful encounters with Andrew to honor every child’s individuality. Mark’s days are now filled with grandparenting, pet therapy, and writing—proof that retirement is a beautiful new beginning.
Through playful adventures with his older brother and wise lessons from Grandpa, Milo learns to embrace his unique superpower and make the world a happier place. Parents reading this book with their children will find it an excellent tool for teaching important values such as kindness, resilience, and the power of positivity. The story provides opportunities for meaningful discussions about emotional intelligence, empathy, and the importance of spreading joy in everyday life.
A must-read for young readers who dream of being superheroes in their own special way!
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
