Lord, it’s me. The mom who woke up tired which happens more and more in my home. How about your home? The woman who poured coffee before she poured grace. The one who’s trying to raise humans and not kill anyone. Who loves a man, walk the dogs, runs a house, runs a business, and not lose her mind before breakfast. Which happens more time than not.
Bless this house — the loud parts, the messy parts, the holy parts, and the parts I pretend I don’t see. Bless the kids who wake up hungry. Bless the dogs who wake up wild. Bless the husband who wakes up working. Bless the mom who wakes up wondering if she’s enough.
Walk with me through the chaos. Sit with me in the quiet (if I ever get any). And remind me that even on the days I feel like a hot mess with a side of “Lord, help,” I am still Yours and this is why I’m grateful, thankful and blessed.
Amen.
☕ 7:05 AM — Mom Time (That Isn’t Actually Mom Time)
People online love to say, “7 AM is mom time. Light a candle. Read your Bible. Sip your coffee.”
Baby… In what universe?
In THIS house:
- C is already asking for coffee like he’s a 47‑year‑old ranch foreman.
- William another of C’s friends and yes another of my children from another mother is snoring like a grown man.
- Gerald is on the couch pretending he can’t hear me.
- David is at work thank the LORD or we would be homeless.
- Bear is in the pink chair like he pays rent.
- Pheobie is stealing blankets like she owns the place.
- My Fitbit is dead.
- My patience is on 2%.
- My Coffee is lukewarm.
- Where’s the Water and where is breakfast? I have no, clue, do you?
This is not “mom time.” This is survival mode with caffeine.
🧺 7:10 AM — The 5-Minute Mom Reset (Real Version)
Because moms don’t have time for a 30-step morning routine.
1. The 60-Second Scoop
Grab a laundry basket. Walk through the living room and kitchen. Scoop everything into it. Don’t sort. Don’t fold. Don’t think.
2. The 2-Minute Counter Clear
Wipe the counters with whatever is closest: This is C’s job as I load the dishwasher although at times I leave it for Gerald to do and I wipe the counters and C’s takes the trash out. Because in this house jobs are changed more than C’s socks.
- Clorox or Lysol Wipe are my best friend and my Bible
- paper towel
- teenager’s hoodie
- your own shirt
Doesn’t matter just wipe the counters off and yes, move things and wipe under the counters its not going to kill you.
No shame.
3. The 1-Minute Water Reset
Drink a full glass. You’re dehydrated. We all are.
4. The 1-Minute Breath/Prayer
Inhale 4. Hold 4. Exhale 4. Say: “Lord, help me not lose it today.” Tattoo it on your forehead and keep repeating as the day struggles to take over your day.
5. The 30-Second Dog Check
Take the dogs out before they let themselves out and don’t stop walk to the end of your street with them. Boom I got steps in even if it’s all the steps I get in today.
DONE. Your house looks 40% better. Your brain feels 60% calmer. Your day is 100% more survivable.
📚 7:20 AM — Book of the Day (With Real Steps)
If there is time today, I would like to read “The Lazy Genius Way” by Kendra Adachi because this book is not a cute prop it’s a tool for moms. This self-help paperback is — cheaper, lighter, backpack and purse-friendly.”
How moms actually use the book:
- Pick ONE thing to be a genius about today
- Pick EVERYTHING ELSE to be lazy about
- Stop trying to be perfect
- Start trying to be peaceful
🏡 7:30 AM — The House Walkthrough (Real Mom Edition)
This is where the bougie beer-redneck kick-ass mama comes out.
You walk the house like:
- “I love y’all, but I swear…”
- “Why is this here?”
- “Who left this?”
- “Why is the dog eating that?”
- “Why is the teen breathing so loud?”
This is where moms need steps, not vibes.
🧠 7:40 AM — The Mom Mindset Reset
Say this out loud:
“I don’t need a perfect morning. I just need a start.”
Because moms don’t get quiet. Moms get interrupted. Moms don’t get help. Moms get in the way. Moms don’t get Calgon. Moms get chaos.
And somehow? We still show up. Because we love our family and Pets or do we?
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
