David was supposed to have picked up a bag of Pinto Bean ie Red Bean at Walmart last night when he stopped. But I got up and asked David where he had put the Beans and he said I didn’t get them. I thought we could go this morning.
Great scout one more thing to add to my list. But the LORD knew our needs before we did and David looked where we keep the Spices and there was a package of Beans in there. Thank the LORD that should have been one less errand we had to do but it wasn’t I still needed to go to Walmart.
That was okay because that “One Pot of Red Beans, turned into Three Meals: I thought I would share with you How We Stretch Food in Real Life”
Before we ever left the house this morning, dinner was already started because we added the Ham and Beans to the Crock Pot and yes, that is the Ham we had been eating for the past week and still have some left. .
Would you like to join my family for dinner as we have a huge pot of what we call red beans—but some people call them pinto beans—but around here, it’s just what feeds us and stretches our week and keeps us on budget without breaking the bank.
This pot of pinto beans or red beans has ham in it, hamburger meat, and Kendrick’s Blend Seasoning. Which is Salt, Pepper and Garlic. Which has become a staple in our kitchen. Nothing fancy. Just real food that fills you up.
While we were out running errands all day, that pot just kept cooking and doing its job. By the time we got home, dinner was ready—beans, leftover ham, steak and onions from the night before, and Jiffy cornbread on the side. Sweet Cornbread for my family. How about yours?
But the real value isn’t just tonight. It’s what comes next. If there are beans left—and there usually are—we don’t waste them. We turn into refried beans for taco night, or sometimes goulash later in the week. One pot turns into multiple meals without starting over every day. Allowing my family to cook once eat twice and make budget meals that are kid-friendly most of the time.
That’s how we cook right now. Not just for tonight… but for several days ahead. Because when you’re living real life, feeding your family, and watching your budget, food stops being just “what’s for dinner.” It becomes a plan that keeps working even when were tired.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
