You’ve heard me say this more times than not, but I wanted to share “When Everything Stopped, Family Showed Up“. Some days don’t go the way you planned. Especially not in my home and I like to say this is when the LORD is trying to get our attention.
Today started with a health scare for my father-in-law. The kind that makes everything stop for a minute. Calls had to be made. Decisions had to be faced. The kind of morning that reminds you how quickly things can change.
But in the middle of all of that… something unexpected happened.
David’s three brothers were all there.
In the same room.
No arguing. No tension. No old history getting in the way.
Just time.
It’s been years since that’s happened.
And for Granny to be able to see her boys together like that—calm, present, just being there—it meant more than anything else that happened today. It also reminded me to take photos no, matter what anyone says or how they look. Take photos not one but several.
We saw family we don’t always get to slow down with.
Lesley & Toby. Alex. Tiffany. Uncle Mike. and Bo and my family.
No phones. No distractions. Just being in the moment together. Even with everything going on, that was the best part of the day. Life didn’t stop when we left the hospital.
We still needed water. Groceries. Dinner. The normal things don’t pause just because your heart does for a while. So, I kept going.
And somehow, even on a day like today, we made it work. A quick store trip. Meals planned. Tomorrow figured out. Because that’s real life.
You show up when it matters.
You take care of your people.
And then you come home, pour a glass of sweet tea, and keep moving forward.
Tonight, that’s exactly what I’m doing. After I call my son and fill him in on the day.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
