I don’t know about in your home but in our home not all work around the home or family life comes from paid jobs or scheduled projects. A lot of it comes from what people call “honeydo” lists or at times bartering — the ongoing tasks that keep a household running.
This week included several of those types of jobs, including gutter cleaning and attic cleanup work at a family property. These kinds of tasks often get overlooked until they become necessary, and having extra help makes a big difference in getting them completed efficiently.
One of the helpful parts of this week was having Bradley assist with some of the work because Charlie was busy working his job at the Airport.. Involving teens in real household and maintenance tasks is not just about finishing jobs faster, but also about teaching responsibility, basic skills, and work ethic in a practical environment.
These types of family-based work situations often fall into a category that doesn’t always get highlighted, but they are a normal part of maintaining homes and helping each other when needed. Whether it’s cleaning, organizing, or outdoor maintenance, these tasks tend to be more manageable when multiple people are involved.
There is also value in recognizing that not all work is formal employment. Learning to contribute in different ways within a family setting is often part of growing up and understanding how homes and responsibilities are shared. Even simple things like helping with cleanup, organizing spaces, or assisting with outdoor tasks become part of a larger picture of teamwork within a household.
Having Bradley step in at times when Charlie and I can’t help David is a Godsend and gives me peace of mind because someone else is with David encase something happens and he needs a extra hand. Or ends up hurting himself which he did one time while cleaning my sisters yard he ended up tripping on a saw and needed stiches. Thank the LORD we was home to take him to the hospital or knowing David he would have duck tapped his knee and kept working. Men what can I say. LOL
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
