When Charlie and even Suzzane was little we used to do crafts in our Homeschool Art Class but also for fun. I remember when we would try a “simple craft” with Charlie and Suzzane that turned into glitter everywhere, glue on the table, and half-finished projects… you’re not alone.

One day David was home and he said lets use duct tape to make a project and for a lot of people that’s where duct tape quietly surprises people. It’s not just for fixing things—it’s actually one of the easiest, least messy materials for kid crafts that actually get finished.

No drying time. No complicated steps. No waiting for paint to set. Just cut, stick, fold, and create. Even the youngest kids can make duct tape crafts with the supervision of a adult. Charlie wanted me to remind you these crafts can be done inside or outside because its easy to take duct tape with you.

Easy duct tape craft ideas kids can actually do:

1. Wallets— Fold and tape simple rectangles—kids love using them for pretend money or allowance.

2. Bookmarks– Quick strips turned into personalized designs. Great for reading time or homeschool work. With Back to School around the corner they would make a nice Gift for teachers.

3. Phone stands- (cardboard base + tape) Simple structure builds that feel like “real engineering” to kids. Charlie can’t wait to make one of these for his desk and mine to.

4. Pencil pouches– A fun way to reuse old zip bags or cardboard tubes.

5. Custom labels & décor– Great for bins, school supplies, or organizing homeschool spaces.

Why it works so well for kids

Duct tape gives kids:

  • Instant results (no waiting) which is a Godsend in my home because neither Charlie or I are patient.
  • Easy cleanup saves times on busy days
  • Strong materials that don’t fall apart mid-project
  • A sense of accomplishment without frustration

And for parents? It means less mess and more finished projects sitting on the counter instead of abandoned halfway through.

A homeschool bonus

If you’re doing hands-on learning, duct tape projects quietly build:

  • Fine motor skills
  • Creativity
  • Problem-solving
  • Basic design thinking

Without it feeling like “schoolwork.” It’s learning disguised as fun.

Have you created duct tape crafts with your children? If so leave me a comment and let me know what you made and why.
