I don’t know about things in your home but life in this house is never the way you think it’s going to be. No, matter how much planning I do more times than not my day gets flipped on its head and I’m left to clean up the mess.

Last night I had dinner planned and then David came home and the meals I planned became something different. David and I ended up going to Dollar Tree for Shake and Bake. Of course, they didn’t have Shake & Bake, but God only knows why, but of course I couldn’t leave empty-handed.

I grabbed a few things I did need—aluminum pans (which are always great) and paper plates, because Gerald requested them and yes, we’re the kind of house that eats off paper plates a lot of the time. It’s easy, it’s cheap, and you just throw them away. No shame in that.

Then I started finding all the little “extra” things Dollar Tree is good at.

I found a date night kit— “Activities for Flirty Fun.” Inside this art & kit there is 10 prompted date cards, a 20-page memory booklet, photo sticker frames, and a sticker sheet. It even has phrases like “Best night ever,” “10 out of 10,” and “I love you.” There are 34 stickers total.

I thought this kit would be cute for Charlie and Mikalyia or even David and I. Charlie and McKayla for simple at-home date nights that don’t cost much but still feel intentional. As a way to get to know each other.

Then I found a cocktail party kit—which you don’t have to use alcohol to enjoy it. You can make mocktails like Shirley Temples or other fun drinks. This kit includes coasters, a host guide, drink awards, drink markers, recipe cards, and conversation starters. Basically a full girls’ night in a box.

They also had a book club kit that says “Read. Discuss. Connect.” I would like to turn into a wall print for my wall. This kit comes with voting cards, bookmarks, stickers, and prompts that make book nights easy instead of overwhelming.

Everything was only $1.50 each, which is kind of wild for how much is included. These kits would make nice Gifts for Father’s Day, Teachers Gifts and even Stocking Stuffers for Christmas and don’t forget Valentines Day.

That’s what made this trip feel fun—simple finds that turn into easy ideas for nights at home without overthinking it. Because sometimes the best things aren’t planned—they’re just found while you’re trying to grab something else entirely.
