Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed: Movies & Memories Comfort Shows That Feel Like Home

The Mommies Reviews

From the time I was a little child I’ve been obsessed and had my favorite shows I never wanted to miss. Then when Suzzane came along we each had our favorite shows but we also had family shows we always watched together as a family with my nephew David M.

Then she was gone and it was just David and I and we had our favorite shows and then Charlie arrived and he and I would watch the same shows over and over. Now, Charlie is grown and doesn’t watch that much tv but I do and I still have my favorite tv shows and I wanted to let you know some television shows and movies become more than entertainment.

They become a place of comfort. A place where we can laugh, relax, and forget about life’s worries for a little while. No matter how many times I’ve seen them, there are certain favorites that I will never grow tired of watching. For me, one of those shows will always be I Love Lucy.

I can watch Lucy get herself into one hilarious situation after another, and it still makes me laugh. It doesn’t matter how many years have passed or how many times I’ve seen an episode. It feels like visiting an old friend. That’s what comfort shows do. They remind us of simpler days, family evenings, and the joy of gathering around the television together.

Of course, I Love Lucy isn’t my only comfort favorite. But it is the one show that goes back to Suzzane who was a major fan of the show and she is the reason I have the I Love Lucy sign hanging up in my Coffee Nook are and also why I’ve collected I Love Lucy books.

Another show that stops me in my tracks is Grease. If it is on t,, I’m stopping to watch it. My family has always laughed because they know exactly which scenes I love the most. It’s one of those movies that has become part of our family’s traditions from Suzzane and I to David M. and even Charlie and David.

Then there’s Pretty Woman. I never seem to get tired of watching it, and hearing Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Woman” immediately brings the movie to mind. Some films simply stand the test of time. If you love television as much as I do what is your go to movie and why? Come watch it with me.

Over the years, I’ve realized these shows and movies have something in common. They bring peace. They bring laughter. They remind me of people I love. Sometimes they even bring back memories I’d forgotten until a familiar scene or song appears on the screen.

Life gets busy. There are bills to pay, work to finish, responsibilities to handle, and worries that can easily consume our thoughts. That’s why I don’t feel guilty spending an evening with a favorite movie or a classic television show. Sometimes our hearts need comfort just as much as our bodies need rest.

For me, these shows aren’t about escaping life. They’re about remembering the moments that made life beautiful. A favorite chair. A glass of sweet tea. Family nearby. A familiar laugh coming from the television. Those simple moments become some of life’s greatest blessings.

I’m grateful for the stories that still make me smile. I’m thankful for the memories they’ve helped create. And I’m blessed to have comfort shows that always feel like coming home. Which is why I’m Grateful. Thankful. Blessed. Small moments. Everyday blessings.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
