Last night for the first time ever David and I were able to go to the Symphony in Dallas. Now you would think with us living in Fort Worth that we would have attended the Symphony with us being in our 50’s but neither David or I had been. As for Charlie he has attended a event at Bass Hall in Fort Worth on a Field Trip through his school. Which was a Field Trip I missed as I was working and wasn’t able to attend.

Aas soon as I found out I could get tickets to attend the Women of Rock at the Dallas Symphony I knew I wanted to attend the event because I love 80’s Music and once I saw which ladies they would be playing music from I couldn’t accept the post fast enough. From Carol King and Arthea Franklin to Tina Tuner. I asked David if he would like to attend Women of Rock with me. David said yes, he would and that Charlie might enjoy the symphony as well because he loves all types of music and instruments used to play the music.

I picked Charlie up from school and mentioned to Charlie where I was going. I let Charlie know he could go down to his grandmothers or that he could stay by himself and she would check on him throughout the evening. Charlie surprised me and asked if he could attend the event with me as he wanted to hear the music. Charlie said he wanted to share the event with his music teacher and we could also share it with our Homeschooling Friends.

We started out to Dallas and all I can say is the LORD was watching over us as we got into Dallas safely and were able to have dinner at El Fenix before the rain hit. When Women of Rock was over we also made it home without the rain coming until we walked into our home. Which I was so happy about because I don’t know Dallas that well and driving in the rain is scary.

Women of Rock began at 7:30 and was over by 9:30 allowing us to get home and for David to get in bed at a decent hour. David has to be at work at 3:30 Saturday morning, David and I were amazed at how easy the Dallas Symphony was to find and how easy it was to find parking that it didn’t break the bank like a lot of parking at events does. We parked in the Parking Garage and it was only $6 and the event was right around the corner so it wasn’t that far to walk.

I can’t wait to return to the Dallas Arts Area and walk around as my family found so many things we want to take a closer look at. We would like to have dinner at some of the restaurants including Opus and Allegro inside Dallas Symphony  we can choose to have dinner at. Or we could just opt for dessert as there is a Dessert Bar. Which Charlie choose a cookie from last night and I had a piece of Chocolate Camel Cake that was to die for. I can’t wait to return and try the Italian Cream Cake.

Charlie and I enjoyed walking around inside the Hall and seeing all the art work with the individuals in the Symphony I went inside the Gift Shop and found quite a few items I could like to get Charlie for Christmas. From a pair of sock to the Opera Glasses. Then we all went to Will Call which was downstairs near the Gift Shop to pick up  our tickets.  On the counter were plastic glasses and my family were able to pick out a pair of fun glasses to wear during the event. I picked out purple glasses and Charlie had to have blue glasses and we made David get green glasses. Although David was a Grinch and wouldn’t wear his glasses.

We went inside the auditorium to find our seats and all I could do was look around in awe as the auditorium was so pretty. I was obsessed with the ceiling. I liked that no, matter where you was seated you could see the stage. David showed me there were regular chairs behind us and if I I got to hurting and needed to move I could sit in those chairs or go to the restroom which was right around the corner.

Through this event I didn’t end up hurting because it wasn’t to cold inside the auditorium. Although I did bring a sweater and I wore it for a bit but was able to take it off for the second half of the show. For me the auditorium not being cold was a huge plus as there have been times when we have had to leave events from me hurting because it was so cold to me. I would like to let you know I was amazed there weren’t more people attending the show but I believe that was due to the Weather.

I say this because they had asked everyone to dress in there best 80’s fashion and we only saw one lady dressed up. Now, I would like to share a tip with you we learned while inside the Symphony you can not take pictures as the ushers will come and ask you not to. Which we didn’t know about until they asked a lady to put her phone away. Which was sad as there was so many fun things happening in the show including the costumes that I would have liked to share with you.

Women of Rock begin I enjoyed seeing the audience involved from singing to clapping. I loved the tidbits the Conductor and singers shared about the singers who sang the songs to the conductors  who wrote the songs. Through this I was able to pick up plenty of tips Charlie and I can use in our Music class.. I knew every song playing by heart and so did David. Including the way they played Love Is A Battlefield. The neat part was when one song began playing and David leans over and says that is from “Sex and the City” my favorite show as I could tell David pays attention to the things I enjoy.

Charlie even knew quite a few of the songs like You Got A Friend In Me. Charlie reminded me this song was played on The Golden Girls. Charlie let me know Whats Love Got To Do With It was the background music in his video game. Once Charlie wakes up  in the morning Charlie  is going to show me which video the song is in and play it for me. For our family this is a teaching moment where Charlie will be able to teach the teacher which is me. I love when Charlie can teach me instead of me teaching him because it shows me the things he knows.

I can’t wait to run to the store this morning to pick up Flashdance for a movie night this evening as both Charlie and David heard the song last night and neither of them have watched the show so I will be able to share one of my favorite movies with them. I just hope it doesn’t make Charlie decide he want’s to become a Welder which it could do.

Before we left the event last night I asked David if he would purchase a ticket for me this evening and bring me back to watch the show again and he said he would if he didn’t have to work tomorrow. But he needs his sleep this evening. Do I have any friends that would like to attend Women of Rock with me this evening? I promise you will love the show just as much as my family did.

  1. There is always something to do in Dallas for everyone of all ages. This sounds like a really fun event to attend and enjoy.

  2. Sounds like a great concert. I love the acoustics in symphony halls. I have been saying for years I would squeeze in a trip to see DSO when in Dallas and I may just do that on our upcoming trip there next month. *fingers crossed*

  3. Oh wow I bet this was absolutely amazing to get to hear and experience live! I can imagine so many people are going to really enjoy getting to make the most of the wonderful show.

  4. I bet this was an amazing symphony to hear and see. Both my daughters play violins, so we have been attending youth symphonies for years now and love them

  5. This is a full orchestra playing rock music? Sounds like a lot of fun! Especially if they play some of the classics like Love is a Battlefield.

  6. Awww, It would have been great to hear that at least half of the crowd had donned the 80s gear- that would have been an amusing sight! I hope you will enjoy the second night if you do get to go tonight too 🙂
