In my family it seems like anytime we need to run a errand it includes a trip to the Dollar Tree. What about in your home? I need to stop because I was looking for a few items I needed for work and David wanted snacks for when he was working.
And just like that… they didn’t have any of it. No Betty Crocker items I was hoping for. No Duct Tape. Nothing on my list. I could’ve just turned around and walked out, but instead I walked the aisles anyway. Sometimes it’s not just about what you came for—it’s about seeing what’s changed, what’s new, and what might come in handy later. And honestly, I was getting my steps in too, so I wasn’t mad about it.
After that, we stopped at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, and that’s where it got harder. I found a coffee pot in pink I really liked… one I actually wanted. But we had already bought one earlier at Walmart for the coffee bar we’re putting together.
So, I had to stop and remind myself again… Want is not the same as need. And today, I chose to walk away. Not because I didn’t like it. But because we’re building something right now, and every dollar has a job to do.
Sometimes the win isn’t what you bring home… It’s what you don’t spend. Which was money I can put towards going to see Charlie and take him the items he needs or go to Canton to celebrate Mother’s Day and Suzzie’s Birthday.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
