Front Porch Teachings is an ongoing series on The Mommies Reviews where I share true stories from my family’s everyday life. Every article begins with a personal story before transitioning into the lesson God taught me through that experience. Some days are joyful. Some days are difficult. Every day has something to teach us if we’re willing to look for God’s hand along the way.
Post 1
I don’t know about your family, but when I was homeschooling Charlie, there were moments in life when learning didn’t come from a classroom, a book, or a structured schedule. Learning for my family came from real life including the kitchen table when a simple conversation turned into something we both needed to hear.
Learning came from outside in the middle of an ordinary day when something unexpected slowed us down just enough to notice it. Sometimes learning came from inside the car between errands, when life was moving but still left room for meaning.
And more times than not, it came from conversations on the porch between my son and me, sharing everyday life as it unfolded in real time. Those moments shaped us more than any workbook ever could. That is exactly what Front Porch Teachings is about.
Not formal lessons. Not perfect lessons. Just real life, spoken honestly and shared as we go. So grab your favorite beverage, settle in, and come join us here on the porch. Below you’ll find every lesson in this series. Each one stands alone, but together they build something bigger — a collection of everyday truths found in ordinary moments.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
