It’s 10 PM, and I’, sure your house is finally quiet. Not in my home Charlie is yelling at me because I’ sitting outside on the porch to get inside. The porch is still and my drink is beside me with my tablet as I look through the book I’m thinking about reading but I’m not reading. I’m just breathing.
Or I was trying to so it’s time to #Pickmybattles and I pick everything up to come inside so Charlie will be quiet. This is my Mile Marker Grace. The moment where I stop chasing and start thanking. The moment where I say, “Lord, you got me through another day.”
Thank You for the loud moments — the barking dogs, the slammed doors, the laughter that turned into tears. Thank You for the quiet ones — the tea I finally drank, the frog tucked beside the cross, the butterfly that didn’t fly away.
Thank You for the strength to get through another week. Thank You for Bear, curled up like a little porch boss. Thank You for David’s honey-dos and C’s chaos. Thank You for the mess that reminds me I’m alive.
Tonight, I’m not asking for anything. I’m just saying thank You. Thank You for breath. Thank You for grace. Thank You for the kind of love that meets me in the middle of the porch, under the stars, with a book and Pheobie as we go inside to look for Bear.
Bless my sleep. Bless my home. Bless my heart. Bless tomorrow. Amen.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
