October 1 National Homemade Cookies Day #HomemadeCookieDay

Food Holidays Recipes

We were traveling yesterday. I didn’t know October 1st was National Homemade Cookies Day #HomemadeCookieDay. If I had been home, I would have made Oatmeal No-Bake Cookies for David and I which neither of us have had since we graduated.

I was thinking next week when David is off work I would pick up Quaker Oat Meal and we can prepare the Cookies which Gerald and Charlie might eat as well. I just need to see if they can be made Gluten-Free for my sister. Would you want us and make Homemade Cookies so we can celebrate National Homemade Cookie Day?

Quaker No Bake Oatmeal Cookies are easy to make and delicious! They require no oven time and use simple ingredients like Quaker oats, cocoa, sugar, butter, and peanut butter.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of how to make them:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • ½ cup butter or margarine
  • ½ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup cocoa
  • 2½ cups Quaker® Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
  • ⅓ cup peanut butter
  • ½ cup chopped unsalted peanuts (optional)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, butter, milk, and cocoa in a medium saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches a rolling boil.
  3. Boil for 1 minute, continuing to stir.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in oats, peanut butter, peanuts (if using), and vanilla.
  5. Drop by heaping teaspoons onto wax paper or foil.
  6. Cool completely before serving. Store in a cool, dry place covered with foil or plastic wrap.

Tips for Success

  • Use quick oats for a softer texture; old-fashioned oats will give a chewier bite.
  • Don’t overboil—boiling too long can make cookies dry and crumbly.
  • Customize with add-ins like shredded coconut, mini marshmallows, or chopped nuts.

These cookies are perfect for a quick treat, especially when you’re short on time but craving something sweet and chocolatey. You can find the full recipe on Quaker’s official site. Let me know if you want a variation like a nut-free or vegan version!

No Bake Oatmeal Cookies can be made gluten-free with just a few simple swaps:

Key Tips for Gluten-Free No Bake Oatmeal Cookies:

  • Use Certified Gluten-Free Oats: Regular oats may be cross-contaminated with gluten during processing. Look for oats labeled certified gluten-free.
  • Choose Gluten-Free Mix-ins: If you’re adding chocolate chips, peanut butter, or other flavorings, double-check that they’re gluten-free. Most are, but it’s always good to confirm.
  • Avoid Wheat-Based Add-ins: Skip any ingredients like wheat germ or malted milk powder, which contain gluten.

Sample Gluten-Free Ingredient Combo:

  • 2 cups certified gluten-free rolled oats
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • ½ cup honey or maple syrup
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder (check label for gluten-free)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Mix, chill, and enjoy—no oven required!

I have a question for you. Would you like a full recipe or ideas for flavor variations like coconut, almond butter, or pumpkin spice? If so leave me a comment and I will get to work on what you need asap.

Thank you,
