Reba: My Story

I’ve said it before but we use Country Music in our Homeschool Music Class. Which is why this week Charlie and I will be reading Reba: My Story and I also found a magazine titled Reba McEntire – Country Music Legend . If I’m not mistaken I found the magazine at Walmart when David and I went walking and the book at Half Price Books.

Here is a funny fact about Charlie I would like to share with you.” When Charlie was little he used to tell me when he grew up he wanted to marry Reba. If only that were the case I would die one happy camper because I’ve always wanted to meet Reba in person. Which I know will not happen because we haven’t even been to one of Reba’s concerts. Have you?

Throughout the book Charlie and I learned about Reba’s life. I was able to let Charlie know Reba is from Oklahoma just like his grandparents. We discussed Reba being in the Rode just like my mom’s side of the family and still is. Charlie and I had fun discussing how Reba’s style has changed over the years.

Charlie and I laughed at some of the things Reba shared with us. Charie and I had fun as we went over the awards Reba has earned in her career. Then Charlie and I researched the companies they came from in our Homeschool Drama Class. Charlie was impressed with how much Reba loves the LORD just like us.

Reba shared both highs and lows from her life including the death’s of her band members. Then Reba took the time to introduce us to her family and friends allowing us the opportunity to get to know Reba even more than we already did. There is over 48 photos to look through whichmy family enjoyed seeing.

In our Homeschool Music Class Charlie and I listened to some of Reba’s songs and Charlie even performed When The Lights When Out in Georgia for me and I sang Fancy. Then Charlie and I watched the movie When The Lights Went Out in Georgia. Once we finished the book Charlie drew some of the things he learned from the book for his Homeschool Art Class.

Reba: My Story

With the same straightforward honesty that made her one of Country’s top-selling female recording artists, Reba McEntire tells her phenomenal story.

From her childhood in Oklahoma working Cattle with her ranching family to her days on the rodeo competition circuit, from her early days as a performer in honky-tonks to her many awards and a sold-out appearance at Carnegie Hall, Reba relates her experiences with heartfelt emotion and down-to-earth humor.

With the same warmth and generous Spirit that infuses her music, she introduces us to the most important people in her life: the family and friends who sustain her and the musicians and producers who have inspired her and helped her realize her artistic vision.

With great poignancy, she also recounts the lowest points of her life, the breakup of her first marriage and the plane crash that took the lives of eight of her band members; and the highest, her remarriage and the birth of her son Shelby. Her story is not only a chronicle of a remarkable life but a vivid testament of unshakable determination and Faith in God.

Featuring 48 pages of photos, Reba: My Story is an intimate portrait of one of America’s most beloved and successful entertainers.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
