Don’t Fry Friday is a very important holiday for our skin. The holiday occurs just as the Memorial holiday begins. At the start of Summer. At this time, the Sunshine is the most intense. People are seeking the Sunshine after a long winter. The purpose of today, is to educate people, andmake them aware of the dangers of overexposure to UVA and UVB Rays. These UV rays come from the Sun, and from popular tanning booths. They are the primary cause of Skin Cancer.

Very Important: Skin cancer is very treatable and curable, if caught early. Unfortunately, early detection does not always occur. If you have even the slightest suspicion, go get checked out by your doctor immediately. Dont wait.

A little Sunshine is good for you because it provides important Vitamin D, and Sunshine brightens our mood. It’s over exposure that damages our Skin, and can result in Skin Cancer. There’s a better way to get Vitamin D, than from the Sun which is readily available as a Vitamin supplement in pill form, usually along with Calcium.

Have a safe happy Summer. Follow the motto for Skin Cancer prevention: ” Slip, Slop, Slap, and Wrap” This means slip on a shirt, slop on the Suntan Lotion preferraby SPF 30 or higher, then slap on a hat, and put on Sunglasses. UV Rays can damage your eyes, too. In addition, it is recommended that people stay out of the Sun during midday of Summer, when these harmful UV Rays are the most intense.

Did You Know? Over 3.5 million cases of Skin Mon-Melanomas are diagnosed each year. There are over 76,000 cases of Skin Melanoma a year. Most of these cases are preventable.

History and Origin of Don’t Fry Friday:

The National Council of Skin Cancer Prevention website leads one to believe that they are the creators of Don’t Fry Friday. While they do not come right out and claim to be the creators, we believe they are.

Sun Screen Day

Sun Screen Day educates and brings awareness to the importance of using Sunscreen to protect yourself and children from harmful UV Rays from the Sun. This holiday is held on May 27th, just in advance of the Summer Vacation Season.

Ultraviolet Rays from the Sun is a serious risk to your health. With the steady depletion of the Ozone Layer above the Earth, more and stronger UV Rays get through.

Overexposure to the Sun can cause a number of health problems including Skin Cancer, and Sunspots. It can also result in premature aging of our skin.

Doctors and medical professionals advocate the use of Sunscreen, to guard against health problems. Doctors recommend a Skin Protection factor (SPF) of 15 or more. The higher the SPF value, the better the lotion is at protecting you against harmful UV Rays. Sunscreens should be used for all outdoor activities, including swimming.

Did you know we should even use Sun Screens on cloudy days because UV Rays can penetrate through the Clouds.

History and Origin of Sun Screen Day:

We discovered no substantial information about the origin of this holiday and we can only speculate that a medical or health organization or group created this holiday to promote awareness and education about the dangers of ultraviolet light from over-exposure to the Sun.

Thank you,
