Where The Crawdads Sing by Author Delia Ownes (Review)

Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens (Author), Cassandra Campbell (Narrator), Penguin Audio (Publisher)

This book is slow at first but you have to give it a chance and after a while I fell in love with the story which will keep you wanting to read more and one you finish the story if your like me you will not have been ready for it to have ended. The references to the different marsh life were wonderful and something my family was able to use in our Homeschool Classes and I liked how the author made me feel like you’re in the marsh with the coastal details.

Spoiler alert be prepared be prepared as the book goes back and forth from chapter to chapter and the story’s main character is very young, and her family is on the fringes of society in this marsh wasteland. Her plight and heritage are well described and in the book a tragedy happens and no, I’m not going to tell you what it is because I believe you need to read the book for yourself.

Where The Crawdads Sing is not only a #1 New Tork Times Bestseller it’s also a motion major picture which we haven’t had the opportunity to see but I would like to at one time and since it isn’t in the theaters anymore I would like to purchase the DVD for a family movie night. Would you like to join us?

“Painfully beautiful.”—The New York Times Book Review

For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life—until the unthinkable happens.

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.
