A lot of children will be getting out of school next week while other children may be in school a while longer. Or they may go year-round if there homeschooling. My family thought we would share 🌿 Simple Family Nature Week: Crafts, Outdoor Fun & Summer Prep for Real Life Families you can do with your children and don’t forget to invite your friends and family.
We all know Earth Day has passed, and most families aren’t thinking about Earth Day right now. And honestly, that makes sense. Life moves fast—school, work, meals, sports, pets, laundry piles, homeschool lessons. Most days are just about keeping everyone fed, moving, and where they need to be.
With school wrapping up and summer right around the corner, families are stepping into that in-between season. Routines shift. Kids are home more. Everyone starts looking for simple ways to stay busy, stay connected, and get outside a little more.
So instead of trying to “catch a moment on the calendar,” we’re doing something simpler. We’re starting a Simple Family Nature Week filled with easy ideas, outdoor time, and small moments that fit real life.
This is Day 0 of our 8-day Simple Family Nature Week series. Because this isn’t about perfection. It’s about slowing down just enough to notice the world around us—and each other. Come and join us and let’s make new memories with our friends and family.
🌎 What This Week Is Really About
This week is not about doing everything. It’s about doing small things that matter.
- Stepping outside for fresh air either by yourself or with your friends, family and pets too
- Taking a break from screens which we all need to
- Doing simple activities together if you can get everyone to sit down
- Paying attention to the world around us which I need to do more than I’ve been doing. How about you?
- Making space for connection in everyday life and that means time for friends and family.
It’s about remembering that meaningful moments don’t require a perfect plan—just a little intention.
🌱 Why This Kind of Living Matters
While many people connect this idea to Earth Day, that isn’t why we created this series the heart of it is much simpler and older than any holiday. It’s about everyday awareness—notice what we have, take care of it, and teach kids to do the same in small, natural ways.
That can look like:
- Fresh air and sunlight even if it’s opening a door and just standing and breathing in the air.
- Clean, simple spaces and that can be a small corner in your home.
- Outdoor time together even if it’s a quick walk to the end of the Street.
- Respect for nature and that means taking time to take care of the Plants and Trees around you.
- Gratitude for everyday things and not forgetting to thank the LORD for the things we have.
It’s not a program. It’s just life lived a little more intentionally.
🌿 Why Families Love Simple Nature Weeks
Families don’t need complicated plans. They need things that actually fit real days.
This week is designed for:
- Easy, low-cost ideas which will allow families to do more together without breaking the budget.
- Screen-free time without pressure I can’t wait to let Charlie and David know we are doing a #srcreen-free day this week. Come and join us.
- Simple outdoor fun for me that is working in my garden. Come and join me.
- Flexible family connection with friends and family by just being in the moment.
- Activities that include everyone including the Dogs.
It might look like:
- Walking after dinner to the end of the Street without electronics
- Eating outside when the weather is nice, we haven’t done that since we moved in and I’m going to do that tonight. Would you want to join me?
- Visiting a local park or just the backyard. Since I only have a Back porch unless we go to Lisa Marie Birds lets met at a park and go for a walk.
- Doing a small home or yard project together for David and I we are redoing the balcony and back porch come help us.
- Sitting on the porch for a few quiet minutes is something I will do this evening with the dogs. Come join us.
Nothing fancy. Just real life slowed down a little.
👨👩👧👦 Why Kids Connect So Easily With This
Kids don’t need complicated explanations. They just need space to explore.
This kind of week helps them:
- Notice the world around them which we all take for granted.
- Ask questions naturally no matter what the question might be.
- Move and play outside and just be a child.
- Learn through doing instead of sitting which we all need to do
- Enjoy screen-free time without pressure and reconnecting with friends and family.
Most of the time, the kids don’t even realize they’re “learning.” They just feel like they’re having fun.
👧👦 Why Teens Actually Show Up for This
Teens don’t always connect with structured plans—but they do connect with freedom and purpose.
This week gives them space to:
- Help lead younger kids and teach them things they didn’t know.
- Take photos or document moments no, matter what the photo looks like,
- Join walks on their terms without expectations.
- Help with meals or simple projects like the jobs David has for C&D’s Honey-Dos
- Step away from screens without pressure even if it’s only 5 minutes.
It feels natural instead of forced.
👨🔧 Why This Works for Dads Too
This isn’t assigned to anyone. It just fits into real family life.
Dads can jump in with:
- Yard work or small projects and teach the kids the right way to do yard work.
- Grilling or outdoor meals with friends and family.
- Family walks with or without the dogs.
- Teaching practical skills not only to the kids but other adults as well.
- Building or fixing something together no, matter what it is.
It’s hands-on, useful, and meaningful.
🐾 Don’t Leave the Pets Out
Pets already live this way. They remind us to:
- Go outside a couple times a day
- Move around more than once a day
- Enjoy simple moments just resting and relaxing.
They can join in through:
- Extra walks which allow us to get our steps in.
- Backyard time which gives us fresh Air we all need.
- Outdoor play so we get to move and stretch.
They naturally belong in the rhythm of the week.
🍎 Why Teachers and Families Both Use This Idea
