5 Seconds with Charlie

This morning it is Time for 5 Seconds with Charlie. He would like to present us with another new children’s book review. The new book review is Diary of A Wimpy Kid Dog Days. Before Charlie shares his thoughts with you, I had to explain to Charlie what dog days mean. So I wasn’t sure if you knew as well so here is a definition of dog days:

Dog Days (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Book 4) by [Jeff Kinney]

It doesn’t have to do with dogs lying around in the heat—the phrase comes from ancient Greek beliefs about a star. Instead, it turns out; the dog days refer to the dog star, Sirius, and its position in the heavens. To the Greeks and Romans, the “dog days” occurred around the day when Sirius appeared to rise just before the sun, in late July. They referred to these days as the hottest time of the year, a period that could bring fever or even catastrophe.

Let’s get to Charlie’s thoughts on Diary of A Wimpy Kid Dog Days before Charlie shares his thoughts with you he wanted you to know he thought this book would be about dogs because it’s called Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Dog Days although it isn’t. Charlie was disappointed at first, but once he started reading the book, he got so involved in the story Charlie didn’t miss the dogs he thought would.

Like the mom in Diary of A Wimpy Kid Dog Days, I work hard to get Charlie outside and off his games so I couldn’t wait to read this new book to see what she does. Once I finished reading this book, I couldn’t wait to share it with the other parents in the neighborhood. I also can’t wait for David to sit down and read the story as I know he will think it is funny and that he is going to enjoy the story line and illustrations as much as Charlie and I did.

It’s summer vacation, the weather’s great, and all the kids are having fun outside. So where’s Greg Heffley? Inside his house, playing video games with the shades drawn.

Greg, a self-confessed “indoor person,” is living out his ultimate summer fantasy: no responsibilities and no rules. But Greg’s mom has a different vision for an ideal summer . . . one packed with outdoor activities and “family togetherness.”

Whose vision will win out? Or will a new addition to the Heffley family change everything?
