50 Things to Bake Before You Die: The World’s Best Cakes, Pies, Brownies, Cookies, and More

I wanted to share a new cookbook 50 Things to Bake Before You Die: The World’s Best Cakes, Pies, Brownies, Cookies, and More from Your Favorite Bakers, Including Christina Tosi, Joanne Chang, and Dominique Ansel which Charlie will be using in his Homeschool Cooking Class. We were blessed with a copy of the cookbook in exchange for this review.

I would like to let you know it’s hard to get past the front cover of this cookbook because you will just want to sit and look at the Cake on the cover. Charlie and I discussed the celebrities who shared recipes for this cookbook and most of them Charlie and I hadn’t heard of. Which will allow Charlie and I to research them in our Cooking as well as read about them in our Homeschool Reading Class.

I love how the recipes come from the greatest bakers and chefs, from small town cafe owners to fancy restaurants to TV celebrities. When I opened the cookbook, reminded me of Suzzane because its all pink and her love of desserts and Chocolate. I love how in the introduction the Author explains why she paired death and baking which I agree with her with. If you want to know what we are talking about you need to check out asap, 50 Things to Bake Before You Die.

I was very impressed to find out the Author had included a blogger which shows me if we follow our dreams one day we may end up in a book as well. The first recipe I would like for Charlie to tackle is Homemade Oreo’s by Joanne Chang, Co-Owner of Flour Bakery in Boston, Ma. I hope Charlie can make them not only Double Stuffed but Triple Stufffed.

If my niece and nephew come visit during Spring Break, they can help Charlie back Funfetti Cookies from Kate Wood, baking blogger (Wood & Spoon). Or a Smore’s Cake this Summer when we go Swimming instead of making Homemade Smores? Then I found my Birthday cake Death By Chocolate Cake by Liz Marek, another baking blogger from (Sugar Geek Show).

There is even Daydream Believer Cupcakes from Kat Gordon, owner of Muddy’s Bake Shop in Memphis, Tn which we can eat while listening to the song Daydream Believer by The Monkees in our Homeschool Music Class. Wouldn’t that be fun? Would you like to join us in our Music Class for songs and dessert?

There wouldn’t be a cookbook if they didn’t include a recipe for Chewy Brownies which comes from Tessa Arias, baking blogger (Handle the Heat). If you didn’t know Brownies are my all-time go to favorite dessert. If I could I would make Brownies and eat them every day of the week. Which doesn’t work when dieting.

I was blown away when I found a recipe for Croissants which can be dessert, breakfast and dinner. This recipe comes from Dominique Ansel, chef/ owner of Dominique Ansel bakery in New York, NY which would be fun to visit if I was ever able to visit to New York. In the meantime, if you or someone you know is visiting New York please share this Bakery with them.

To make the cookbook more fun they’ve included food you can and cannot eat with your hands. Which if you were to ask David and Charlie, they would choose to recipes to eat without your hands. What about you. Which recipes would you choose and why? Before you ask which, one would I choose it depends on what recipes are in each section.

To further Charlie’s learning and our love of food they’ve included a list of recommended reading which we can’t wait to check out. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out 50 Things to Bake Before You Die: The World’s Best Cakes, Pies, Brownies, Cookies, and More I hope you do as soon as possible because this is an amazing cookbook.

About the Author: Allyson Reedy

I really like to eat. In fact, if faced with Armageddon and given the chance to relive any day of my life, I would relive the one in which I ate the most. I write about my food, my life and how the two intertwine about three times a day. Or four. Five, depending on the day.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
