Homeschool Resources: August 25 National Banana Split Day #NationalBananaSplitDay

Cooking Food Holidays Homeschool Resources Recipes

I thought I would let you know about another fun #Holiday August 25 National Banana Split Day #NationalBananaSplitDay. I know Charlie and I wouldn’t want a Banana Split because neither of us like Bananas.

Not only that Charlie doesn’t eat much sweets. David loves Banana Splits and if his stomach hadn’t been hurting today I would have seen if David and Charlie wanted to go to Braum’s so David could celebrate Banana Split Day while Charlie and I have a Hamburger. Would you want to go with us?

If your #Homeschooling your children or just want a fun back-to-school snack for them make Banana Splits this afternoon. if your children are taking a cooking class or your wanting to teach them to cook let them make the Banana Splits.

I’ve included a recipe below for a Ol’ Fashion Banana Split your friends and family can make. Or create your own version of a Banana Split and use your favorite flavor or Ice Cream and Toppings. If you want a healthy Banana Split use Yogurt.

Recipe for a Ol’ Fashion Banana Split—the kind that takes you straight back to the soda fountain days from your parents and grand-parents time.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana, peeled and sliced lengthwise
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • 1 scoop chocolate ice cream
  • 1 scoop strawberry ice cream
  • 2 tbsp crushed pineapple (for vanilla)
  • 2 tbsp strawberry sauce or compote (for strawberry)
  • 2 tbsp chocolate syrup (for chocolate)
  • Whipped cream (generous dollops!)
  • Chopped walnuts or peanuts (optional, for crunch)
  • 3 maraschino cherries (one for each scoop)

Instructions

  1. Prep the banana: Slice it lengthwise and place each half on either side of a long dish or banana boat.
  2. Add ice cream: Nestle the scoops of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream between the banana halves.
  3. Top it off:
    • Pineapple on vanilla
    • Strawberry sauce on strawberry
    • Chocolate syrup on chocolate
  4. Garnish: Add whipped cream on each scoop, sprinkle nuts if desired, and crown each with a cherry.
  5. Serve immediately before it melts into a sweet puddle of nostalgia.

The Banana Split dessert is pure Americana. It’s simple, joyful, and customizable. If you want to swap in caramel or add sprinkles? Go wild. It’s your Banana Split, after all. Or is it?

Thank you,
