October 31 National Caramel Apple Day #NationalCaramelAppleDay

Food Holidays Recipes

Life is funny because a while back Charlie had been asking his dad if they could make Caramel Apples. Low and behold October 31st was National Caramel Apple Day. Since Charlie doesn’t go Trick or Treating now because he is to big, I think we will spend the evening making Caramel Apples. Would you want to join us?

Remember October 31st isn’t just for costumes and candy. October 31st is also National Caramel Apple Day! This sweet #holiday celebration honors the delicious fusion of tart apples and gooey caramel, a classic autumn treat that’s especially popular around Halloween.

How to Celebrate #NationalCaramelAppleDay

  • Make your own Caramel Apples: Dip fresh apples in melted caramel and roll them in toppings like crushed nuts, sprinkles, or chocolate chips.
  • Host a caramel apple bar: Set up a DIY station with different apple varieties, caramel sauces, and don’t forget the toppings including nuts and sprinkles.
  • Share the sweetness: Post your creations on social media using the hashtag #NationalCaramelAppleDay.
  • Try a twist: Experiment with gourmet versions of Caramel Apples like salted caramel, white chocolate drizzle, or cinnamon sugar coatings.

Whether you’re handing out Caramel Apples out to trick-or-treaters or enjoying one yourself, caramel apples bring a nostalgic crunch to Halloween festivities. In the meantime, here’s a classic recipe for homemade caramel apples — perfect for fall festivities or a sweet treat any time 🍏🍯

Caramel Apple Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Wooden sticks or skewers

Optional Toppings:

  • Chopped nuts (peanuts, pecans, almonds)
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Crushed cookies
  • Sprinkles
  • Sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Prep the apples:
    • Wash and dry apples thoroughly to remove wax.
    • Insert wooden sticks into the stem end of each apple.
    • Place apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Make the caramel:
    • In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
    • Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk.
    • Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
    • Reduce heat and simmer until the mixture reaches 240°F (soft ball stage) on a candy thermometer.
  3. Finish the caramel:
    • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and salt.
    • Let cool slightly (about 5 minutes) so it thickens a bit.
  4. Dip the apples:
    • Tilt the saucepan and dip each apple, turning to coat evenly.
    • Let excess caramel drip off, then roll in toppings if desired.
    • Place on parchment paper to set.
  5. Let them set:
    • Allow apples to cool and caramel to firm up (about 30–60 minutes).

Tips:

  • If caramel slides off, refrigerate apples before dipping.
  • For extra flair, drizzle with melted chocolate once set.

If you want a twist like salted caramel or cinnamon-spiced coating? I’ve got ideas! Just leave me a comment with what you’re looking for and I will get to work on it.
