Even though Charlie has graduated there is something about back-to-school season that always makes me stop and think about how quickly time passes. One minute were purchasing tiny backpacks, finding the perfect first-day outfit, and taking pictures before walking our children into a new classroom.
Then, before we know it, we are preparing for middle school, high school, and those final years before our children begin their own adventures. As a mom, I’ve learned that back-to-school is about so much more than notebooks, pencils, and new shoes. It is about helping our children feel prepared, loved, and confident as they step into a new season.
Over the years, our family’s school journey has looked different for each child. There were seasons when traditional school was the right fit, and there were seasons when we had to make different choices to support our children. When Suzanne needed a safer environment, we made the decision to homeschool. When Charlie’s educational journey changed, we adjusted and learned together.
Every family has a different story, and every child has different needs. The most important thing is making sure our children know they are supported. That is why this year’s Back-to-School Gift Guide is about more than just supplies. It is about thoughtful gifts, helpful ideas, and simple ways to remind our kids that we believe in them.
From little ones heading to school for the first time to teenagers preparing for their final years at home, every child deserves to begin the school year feeling ready. Not only that so do college student and teachers who may be nervous because they are working in a new school.
Back-to-School Books and First-Day Traditions
Sometimes the best back-to-school gift is a story shared together. Books can help children understand new experiences, calm first-day nerves, and remind them that they are not alone. We will be sharing some of the classic childhood favorites that many parents remember reading, along with books that help children prepare for new adventures.
Back-to-School Care Packages for Students
As children grow, their needs change. A younger child may need comfort items for a new classroom, while a middle school or high school student may appreciate a care package that helps them feel prepared for longer school days, changing routines, and new responsibilities.
We will be sharing ideas for:
- Girls’ back-to-school self-care kits
- Boys’ back-to-school self-care kits
- Backpack emergency kits every student can use
- Thoughtful Dollar Tree care packages that show kids they are loved
Back-to-School Gift Ideas for Every Age
Whether you are shopping for a kindergartner, elementary student, middle schooler, high school student, or a child preparing for college, this guide will continue growing with ideas that fit every stage.
We will be sharing:
- Reading and learning gifts

Preparing Our Kids for a New School Year
The start of a new school year brings excitement, but it can also bring uncertainty. New classrooms, new teachers, new friendships, and new challenges can feel overwhelming. Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most. A handwritten note tucked into a backpack. A favorite snack waiting after school. A care package made with love. A reminder that no matter what happens during the day, home is always a safe place to return to.
This Back-to-School Gift Guide will be updated throughout the summer as we share more ideas and encouragement for families preparing for a new school year. Join us as we count down to August 13th, when my niece and nephew begin their own new school adventures. From first books to first days, we are celebrating every step of the journey. Because every child deserves to know they are prepared, supported, and loved.
Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed
