German Week Chicken Schnitzel with Apple Strudel Dessert

The Mommies Reviews

I wanted to share the second pack of Schnitzel David and I purchased at Aldi’s. This was the Chicken Schnitzel which carries that “German Week” feeling from the first moment it comes together, the kind of comfort food spread that feels both nostalgic and a little bit like a special event at home.

The chicken schnitzel comes from Aldi under the Deutsche Küche seasonal line, the kind of themed release that always brings out a mix of curiosity and opinions. Some people had mentioned the chicken can have a slightly unusual texture, but that wasn’t the experience here at all. David and his mom both went into the Chicken Schnitzel expecting one thing and ended up just enjoying it for what it was, simple and satisfying without anything standing out in a negative way. Even Gerald liked it a lot.

The table didn’t stop at the schnitzel. The same German week theme brought out the apple strudel as well, the two-pack that makes it easy to share without overthinking it. As long as David didn’t share with me because it had Raisins in it.

This meal became one of those moments where food naturally gets passed around—David’s mom and Uncle Mike both trying it, everyone sampling, and before long another box ended up in the cart because it disappeared faster than expected. That kind of reaction usually says more than any label ever could.

The rest of the plate leaned into familiar, home-style comfort. Fried potatoes came out golden and crisp, cooked in a bit of Great Value corn oil until they had that soft crunch on the outside and warmth inside. David turned part of his into a sandwich, while Gerald went for a full plate with cream gravy, the kind that feels close to what you’d expect in a German restaurant setting from years ago. There was even that memory echo of childhood meals at similar places, where everything came out hearty, simple, and served without fuss.

The box itself suggested a full traditional approach with fried potatoes and onions, cabbage, and German potato salad, and while not every side made it to the table this time, the idea behind it shaped how everything else came together.

The cooking process stayed straightforward and practical: the schnitzel was pan-fried in a shallow layer of oil until it reached a golden crust, the potatoes were fried separately in our electric skillet until crisped to preference, and everything was served hot so the textures stayed intact and the meal felt complete as it hit the table. The box contains 6 patties which for our family of 3 and sometimes 4 makes at least 2 meals for $6 a box which is a #budgetmeal and we were able to #cookonceeattwice and these are #kidfrindlymomapproved meals and it’s the perfect Father’s Day Gift or just a great Gift for anyone who enjoys German Food. Just remember you can only find them during German week at Aldi which is one of their Themed weeks.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
