I’d like to share a gift I received from my best friend, Debbie Fenny Sutton. It was for Christmas last year, and it’s something I honestly didn’t expect to mean as much to me as it does. The git is a candle from Goose Creek Candle, and it’s their Peanuts 75 Years collection “Christmas With Friends” candle.
The first thing you notice about the candle is the color — a warm orange tone that feels like Christmas as soon as you see it sitting on the table. And then there’s the scent… fresh fir needles, bright orange zest, and warm clove. It sounds simple when you list it out, but when it’s actually burning, it comes together in a way that just feels like the holidays in your home.
I don’t just love this Peanuts Candle because it smells good or because it’s pretty to look at. It means something deeper to me. I grew up with Peanuts. I remember reading Charlie Brown and Peanuts in the Sunday newspaper as a child, watching the holiday specials, and always being drawn to Charlie Brown in particular. There was just something about him — the way he kept going even when things didn’t always turn out the way he hoped. Charlie Brown was real in a way a lot of characters weren’t. And maybe that’s why this Peanuts Candle hits differently for me.
Even my son being named Charlie always brought a little of that Peanuts connection into our home. Before he was born, we even called him Peanut, and later Charlie Brown just became part of the way we talked about Charlie and his nursery. So when I look at this candle, it doesn’t feel like a theme or a design choice. It feels personal.
Debbie knows that about me. She’s known me since second grade, and when you’ve had a friendship that long, gifts stop being just gifts. They turn into reminders of shared history, shared seasons of life, and all the small things you never forget even when time moves on. That’s what “Christmas With Friends” candle feels like.
There are certain people who don’t just give you something — they give you a reminder of who you’ve been through all the years. Debbie has always been that person for me. We’ve grown up side by side, and somehow life has kept us connected through every stage.
Peanuts has always been part of that connection too. It was always there in the background of childhood, especially during the holidays when the specials would come on and everything felt a little more simple and familiar. So when something Peanuts-themed shows up in my life now, it doesn’t feel new. It feels like it’s been there all along. This Peanuts Candle reflects that in a really unexpected way.
Even the design pulls you into that feeling. Snoopy is right there in the Christmas scene, and one of my favorite details is him stretched out on top of the Christmas tree like he completely owns the holiday. Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the rest of the gang are all part of this candle too, and it instantly takes me back to those old Christmas specials that so many of us grew up watching.
There are also little gold accents and subtle hidden Snoopy details in the design that you don’t really notice at first glance. You have to look closer, and that makes it feel even more personal — like the candle is quietly holding onto small surprises.
The wax itself is a warm orange tone, which I’ll be honest is not something I would have picked for my home on my own. But once it’s sitting out, especially when it’s lit, it makes sense. It feels warm, cozy, and very much like the feeling of Christmas without trying to be traditional. The scent is what ties everything together.
Fresh fir needles, bright orange zest, and warm clove — that combination doesn’t overwhelm the room. Instead, it slowly fills it in a way that feels natural. It’s the kind of scent you notice when you finally sit down after being busy all day and realize your space feels softer than it did before.
When all three wicks are burning, it gives a steady, even fragrance throughout the room. But I also like that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. You can burn just one wick if you want something lighter and more subtle, which makes it easy to use in different moments instead of only special occasions.
And I think that’s part of why I like “Christmas With Friends” candle so much. It fits into real life. It doesn’t try to be more than it is. It just quietly becomes part of the space you’re already in. There’s also something to be said about what this kind of gift represents.
Debbie didn’t just pick something random. She picked something that connects to years of shared memories, childhood nostalgia, and everything we’ve both carried through life since we were kids. That’s what makes it more than a candle.
It also makes me appreciate the idea of gifting in a different way. Something like this would be perfect for a teacher who decorates their classroom during the holidays, or for someone who grew up loving Peanuts and still feels connected to those characters. It would also be meaningful for anyone who collects Snoopy items or simply wants something nostalgic instead of trendy.
It’s not a loud gift. It’s a familiar one. And in a season where everything can feel rushed or commercial, familiar sometimes matters more than anything else. Even now, when I light “Christmas With Friends” candle, it doesn’t feel like I’m just burning a candle.
It feels like I’m sitting with pieces of my childhood, pieces of friendship, and pieces of all those Christmas seasons that came before this one. And somehow, that makes this Peanuts Candle feel like it belongs right where it is in my home on my desk where I can see it everyday.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
