A Man Called Otto

Charlie isn’t one to ask to see movies but when he does let me know there is a movie he is interested in. I know a movie Charlie really wants to see. The other day when Charlie asked me if I wanted to see A Man Called Otto starring Tom Hanks. I turned the table and I asked Charlie if he wanted to see A Man Called Otto.

Charlie let me know he would like to go see A Man Called Otto. I asked Charlie what made him want to see this movie. Charlie said because the movies stars Tom Hanks. I let Charlie know I would watch the trailer because I didn’t know much about the movie. As soon as I finished watching A Man Named Otto trailer I let Charlie know this would be a movie I wanted to see.

When David got him that evening, I let David know I wanted to take Charlie to see A Man Called Otto on Sunday. Sunday came and went and we didn’t get to go. Monday morning, I looked up all the Theaters we go to. I was so surprised only Cinemark (Rave) at Northeast Mall in Hurst, Texas was playing A Man Called Otto.

Monday morning even before I sat down to work, we headed to the Theater. David picked up tickets not only for A Man Named Otto but Whitney Houston’s movie I Wanna Dance With Somebody which I had wanted to see. While there we had also thought of seeing Avatar but decided to go back next week to watch Avatar which David wants to see.

Charlie and I went into the Theater to get our seats while David went and purchased a Soda and large Popcorn for us. Did you know with larger drinks and large Popcorn you can get one free refill which meant during each movie we would have a snack. After watching the preview to new movies coming A Man Name Otto started. I could tell David wasn’t too interested in the movie at first. As A Man Named Otto progressed Charlie and I become more interested in the plot. As I watched David, I could see he was getting into the movie as well.

By the time A Man Called Otto ended David was just as hooked on the movie as Charlie and I were. I would like to let you know we laughed, and we cried. None of us were ready for the film to end. If you haven’t had the opportunity to take your family to see A Man Named Otto, you should because this is the perfect family film.

Before I finish sharing my thoughts with you, I would like to share a fun fact about A Man Named Otto with you. It’s a 2022 comedy-drama film directed by Marc Forster from a screenplay by David Magee. This is the second film adaptation of the 2012 novel A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, and a remake of the 2015 Swedish film of the same name written and directed by Hannes Holm.

Now a major motion picture A Man Called Otto starring Tom Hanks!
#1 New York Times bestseller—more than 3 million copies sold!

Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him “the bitter neighbor from hell.” But must Ove be bitter just because he doesn’t walk around with a smile plastered to his face all the time?

Behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. When one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt Cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents’ association to their very foundations.

Fredrik Backman’s beloved first novel about the angry old man next door is a thoughtful exploration of the profound impact one life has on countless others. “If there was an award for ‘Most Charming Book of the Year,’ this first novel by a Swedish blogger-turned-overnight-sensation would win hands down” (Booklist, starred review).
