Alcoholics

I thought I would share a story from my childhood. My father was a Alcoholic. I don’t know when or why he began drinking. But he was in the Vietnam War and I was born on Carswell Air Force Base.

I would like to say those things isn’t what drove someone to drink but you never know. Although my mom was a piece of work. Her and my dad got married when she you only 18.

I have been told she had a baby she had given up for Adoption but I will never know for sure because she has passed away and so has her parents and my dad didn’t have any details on the adoption.

As a child I remember my parents fighting a lot. One time my dad cam home and our car had been totaled and my dad was charged with a DWI. I wish I could say that stopped my father from drinking and driving but it didn’t.

Through my childhood he would drink. All I can say is most of the time my dad wasn’t abusive to our family. He would drink and go to bed. This has lead to me worrying about how much I drink as well as my sister.

My brother will not drink at all and I believe its because of my dad. They also don’t have a very good relationship which bothers me. My dad was mean to my brother at times,

I am Proud to say my dad isn’t drinking anymore and hasn’t for over 10 years and I don’t think he will ever drink again. Although with a Alcoholic you never know.

People say we marry men like our fathers and I married a Alcoholic and also a Drug Addict but I knew David since I was 16 and I let him know I wouldn’t deal with drinking or drugs.

In 25 years David hasn’t touched drugs but he does have a Beer a couple times a week but he doesn’t get drunk and he is totally different from my father.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
