Day 1: The Official Warning Has Been Issued

I don’t know about you, but I’ve decided to issue a letter to my family:

Dear Family, I Need a Break (And So Does Grandma) — Mother’s Day Countdown Series

🚨 Dear Family… this is your official notice.

You should know Mother’s Day is almost here, and this year we’re doing something different. Instead of silently carrying the mental checklist, the grocery list, the school reminders, the appointments, the laundry, and the “Mom where is my…” questions—we’re acknowledging it out loud.

Because let’s be honest: moms don’t just wake up to a holiday. We wake up to another day of managing everything that keeps everyone else’s world running. This year I am stopping it and making time for myself and Grandma.

Join me as I share Day 1 of a 7-day countdown leading into Mother’s Day, this is part of the series “Dear Family, I Need a Break (And So Does Grandma)”—a reminder that behind every functioning household is usually one very tired woman or two holding the entire operation together.

Somewhere along the way, Mother’s Day became the one day moms are supposed to relax… but also still plan meals, remind everyone what time things are, and make sure nothing falls apart. So this year, consider this your early warning.

If you’re reading this, there is still time.

Time to plan something thoughtful. Time to step in without being asked. Time to recognize that “a break” isn’t a luxury—it’s overdue maintenance. It’s also time to stop hollering mom every 5 minutes and to do something for yourself.

Because moms don’t need more mugs, more candles, or more “I’ll help later.” We need rest that doesn’t require coordination. We need quiet that doesn’t come with interruptions. We need to be cared for the same way we care for everyone else.

And yes… Grandma deserves that too. Afterall, she raised you and she deserves a break too.

So this is your official kickoff:

Day 1 — The warning has been issued. The countdown has begun. Let’s see who’s paying attention this year. Be watching for the rest of the series: Dear Family, I Need a Break (And So Does Grandma)
