Fathom Events brings six Musicals to cinemas nationwide

As we head into this year’s holiday season, the tradition of seeing award-winning performances live on stage seems like a distant memory. But as local cinemas safely welcome families back, the time couldn’t be better to make new memories and traditions at the movies. From award-winning Broadway musicals to cherished classics brought to life on the silver screen, there is something for everyone at the movies from Fathom Events.

Starting this Saturday, Fathom Events offers a great selection of musicals to Cinema audiences including: the largest-ever production of  42nd Street – The Musical, filmed at London’s Theatre Royal; everyone’s favorite plucky orphan Annie, in 1982’s lavishly-produced, star-studded, musical-comedy; the spirited and inspirational Stand! Movie Musical; the Tony-Award-winning and “dazzling, fabulously sassy and uplifting (Time Out)” Kinky Boots The Musical; the Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning smash-hit Fiddler on the Roof, from the  TCM Big Screen Classics event series; and  Buttons, A Christmas Tale featuring Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury, and narrated by Robert Redford and Kate Winslet. Keep reading for more information on each event, plus links to find exhibiting local theaters, purchase tickets, view trailers, and more.

42nd Street – The Musical In theaters Sat., Nov. 21 only

One of Broadway’s most classic and beloved tales, 42nd Street, comes to the big screen in the largest-ever production of the show. The musical tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a talented young performer with stars in her eyes who gets her big break on Broadway. 

Filmed at London’s Theatre Royal the production is directed by the original author of the show, Mark Bramble. This eye-watering extravaganza is full of crowd-pleasing tap dances, popular musical theatre standards, and show-stopping ensemble production numbers. Watch the trailer here:

TCM Big Screen Classics Presents “Annie” In theaters Sun., Nov. 22Mon., Nov 23, Fri., Nov. 27; and Sat., Nov. 28

As a young orphan living in New York City during the Great Depression, Annie knows it’s a “hard-knock life.” Follow the plucky redhead’s journey in the lavishly produced 1982 musical-comedy that’s based on the iconic Broadway musical.

Stand! Movie Musical In theaters Tues., Dec. 1

An immigrant Romeo and Juliet battle for love and a better future during a time of social upheaval. Stefan and his father Mike left their family in Ukraine, fleeing for the New World, where they struggle to earn enough to reunite the family.

Stefan is instantly smitten with the Jewish suffragette neighbor, Rebecca, but Rebecca’s brother Moishe and Mike oppose the would-be Romeo and Juliet.

Returned soldiers, angry at the lack of jobs after the war, violently threaten the city’s immigrants, including Emma, the refugee from racist violence in Oklahoma.

When a movement develops for workers to leave their jobs in protest, a wealthy business leader pits all against each other, leading to a dramatic and inspirational final stand.

Kinky Boots the Musical In theaters Sun., Dec 6; Thu., Dec. 10; and Fri., Dec. 11

TCM Big Screen Classics Presents Fiddler on the Roof In theaters Sun., Dec. 13 and Mon., Dec. 14

In director Norman Jewison‘s boisterous cinematic adaptation of this international Hal Prince-Jerome Robbins smash-hit stage musical, we find ourselves in the picturesque Ukrainian village of Anatevka, in which resides Tevye ([Chaim] Topol), an impoverished milkman with a sharp-tongued wife, Golde (Norma Crane), and five unmarried daughters to support.

But family troubles will soon become insignificant. The corrupt Czarist regime turns against the pious and highly moral Jewish population of Ukraine, and violent pogroms sweep across the land.

Tevye, his family, and their neighbors and friends are faced with the choice of losing their lives or losing their homeland… Musical score by  John Williams.

Buttons, A Christmas Tale In theaters Thu., Dec. 17

Buttons, a musical fairy tale film from creator director Tim Janis takes you on a journey to discover that sometimes believing can be the greatest adventure of all!

During a time of robber barons, mills, and rising industry, two orphan children meet two unexpected visitors (Dick Van Dyke & Angela Lansbury) who turn the tide of events and change their lives forever.
