Kid-Friendly Races and Fun Runs in North Texas

This year we are blessed and David has switched jobs. Giving David the weekends off which he hasn’t had in a long time. With me wanting to lose weight and to keep Charlie off the Electronics I have been looking for ways to get us outside more.

One way to do this is for us to join in activities and Kid-Friendly Races and Fun in North, Texas. Allowing us to spend time as a family while moving and exercising in a healthy environment.

Would you like to join us in the races? As the kids can earn free T Shirts and even prizes through the races and learning good sportsmanship. Which Charlie and David need to work on.

Here is the upcoming Races:

Allen Eagle Run

The first race I would like to share with you is the ALLEN EAGLE RUN
Race in a festival-like setting, complete with running school mascots, cheerleaders and free food at the 11th annual Allen Eagle Run. Kiddos (all ages welcome) speed through the flat (and stroller-friendly) mile-long fun run or a 5K course. All proceeds benefit Allen ISD. Register online, $25-35 per person based on signup date.

Allen is a tad bit far for my family although we could visit this event and join in. Although if we was going to pay the registration fee of $25-$25 dollars I would rather find a event in our area benefiting one of our schools. Because I know they need money for new computers and books.

When: March 2 at 8am for the fun run and 8:30am for the 5k
Where: Allen High School, Allen; 972/727-0362

Dash for the Beads I could do this one as they offer a 1-mile walk, 5K or 10K run.

Dash for the Beads 10k and 5k Run, 1 Mile Walk, Costume Contest and Festival

The only think I am not sure about is where Oak Cliff is in Dallas. Joining the Dash for the Beads would allow us to check out a small town in our area and get to visit new locations.

Another reason I think Charlie would enjoy this race is because its a Mardi Gra-themed fun run. Since I have always wanted to go to New Orleans to the Mardi Gra it would be like visiting there.

The USATF-certified course begins and ends on Canty Street near Kidd Springs Park. After the race, stick around to laissez les bon temps rouler at a festival, costume content and party that will last until the late afternoon. Register online until February 27 at noon.
When: March 2 at 9am (1 mile), 9:30am (10K) and 9:45 (5K)
Where: Canty Street, Dallas

Denton County Dash, a 5K race that gets hearts pumping to raise awareness for Cardiovascular disease.

Playtri

Charlie has joined in a Jump Rope for Hearts in the past and wasn’t able to complete the event. With Denton right up the street from us I was thinking we could join in this event in memory of my grandfather who died from Heart Complications.

As well as for David who has Heart issues and for Charlie who was born with a hole in his heart which healed itself when he was born. Thank the Lord.

The two features I liked the most about this race is they can either walk or run. Then there is no, registration fee to join this event. Making it the perfect race for my family.

Littles 6 and older run or walk this flat course through Railroad Park (about half of the course is unpaved). Register online, free.
When: April 6 at 9am
Where: Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park, Lewisville; 214/697-6922

The Firefly Run 5K I remember catching FIREFLY as a child and when I was reading through this race and it being a Firefly RUN I knew both Charlie and David would like it a lot.

As soon as I found out this race benefited the Scottish Rite Hospital I knew both Charlie and David would be even more interested in joining the race.

We all like helping children who are sick in any way we can. Charlie would like to wear a costume and using Glow Lights to be seen and I also think it would be a lot of fun.

In the Firefly Run once the children finish the race, they will receive a free snack and a medal. What more could a child ask for? Or heck even a parent after a race?

Register tiny night owls for an illuminated run that starts at twilight. Runners are encouraged to dress in brightly colored costumes with flashing lights (for safety) and given LED arm bands, race bib and a glow-in-the-dark t-shirt for the race.  The Firefly Run 5K is open to all ages, all speeds (yes, it’s OK to walk) and benefits Scottish Rite Hospital. Head to the family-friendly after-party for special performances by local dance groups, a costume contest and free snacks after your little receives a glow-in-the-dark finisher medal. Register online, $40 per person for 5K untimed, $50 per person for 10k timed.
When: March 23 at 6pm (registration opens)
Where: Oak Point Amphitheater, Plano

The GREAT AMAZING RACEAre your family fans of The Amazing Race? Mine aren’t but it would be fun to enter the Race and meet other families who are into the show.

Modeled after the Emmy-winning TV show, the Great Amazing Race, hosted this spring in Little Elm and Fort Worth, pits two-person teams (ages 3 and up; competitions are among peers) against each other to compete in eight outdoor challenges in a 1-mile obstacle course. Unfortunately, winners here don’t take home a $1 million prize like on the show. Teams can be kid/kid, adult/child or adult/adult; challenges vary by location but consist of team-building physical exercises. Insider tip: Clue cards need to be read so littles who haven’t mastered the skill yet should be paired with an adult. Register early for $50 per team. Prices may increase closer to the event.
When: Little Elm, March 30 at 10am; Fort Worth, March 31 at 3pm
Where: Little Elm Stadium, Little Elm and Trinity Park, Fort Worth

The PADDY DASH. This Race is taking place in Frisco, Texas and we have been attending more events in this small Town.

I believe it would be fun to attend the race and watch Charlie compete. Then spend the day visiting the Town and all the businesses. Once we are tired, we could have dinner and then return to our neck of the woods.

TRINITY RIVER LEVEE RUN another race in Dallas, Texas. Man on man isn’t there any races at all in Fort Worth?

Trinity River Levee Run and All Out Trinity

Jump at the chance to run — or walk — across the iconic Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge and over the Trinity River during the 15th annual  Trinity River Levee Run that’s open to all ages. Choose between options to do a 5K or 10K course or participate in the half marathon. Once the family has crossed the finish line, spend the rest of the day at the fitness festival with kid-friendly activities such as an obstacle course. Or just enjoy the views—the bridge is pedestrian-only all day. Register online, registration starts a $30 per person.
When: March 2 at 8am
Where: Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, Dallas

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
