When David is working late the way he has last week and even this week dinner depends on local eats and real-life meals: made not only by David but by me as well. This is where Burgers, Fast Food, and Everyday Family Food Choices come into play along with fend-for yourself days that reflect real-life schedules and budgets.
One of the local stops this week included Griff’s Hamburgers, where we picked up Hamburger special for David and Charlie. Being a local restaurant like this often stand out because they offer a different experience compared to chain dining — both in food style and atmosphere.
Alongside local dining, there were also quick and practical fast food meals that fit into a busy week. Options like Popeyes’ two-can-dine deal for Gerald and I decided on Long John Silver’s chicken and fish meal that provided affordable and convenient dinners when time was limited. These types of meals are often chosen not for novelty, but for practicality during full and busy days.
This may have sounded like a lot of unnecessary driving but you drive by Griff’s to get to Popeyes and Jong John Silvers which are right across the street from each other. They are next door to QT if we want a drink or David needs a Beer and Walmart for any last minute items we need for the home so it wasn’t wasting time or gas but allowing me to get in my much needed steps.
I choose to go inside all the restaurants because its easier to order inside than through a drive-thru. At home, cooking also played a role, including our Sunday Down Home Cooking where I made a pot roast that stretched across more than one dinner. This type of home cooking helps balance out the cost and convenience of eating out during the week.
Together, these meals reflect a realistic approach to food — a mix of local support, budget-friendly fast food, and home cooking that fits into everyday life without requiring a strict routine or meal plan. Even though we choose to eat out we ate smartly using apps and coupons when we can and stretching meals into 2 meals.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
