Vengeance of the Allies; A World War 2 Novel by Ethan Watts is Book 1 of 2: The Allies World War 2 Novels I plan on purchasing for David for Father’s Day along with a copy for David’s brother Mike. Then David’s dad can read the book as well.
When my father and my Uncle Chuck was here like my father-in-law they both enjoyed reading books about history, especially stories centered around World War II. Charlie’s Uncle Mike isthe same way. They could spend hours discussing historical events, military strategy, and the people who lived through those difficult times.
When I came across Vengeance of the Allies by Ethan Watts, the story reminded me of the types of books they would have enjoyed reading. It also made me think about David and Charlie. One of the things I have always hoped to do through books is encourage them to learn more about history and the events that shaped our world.
Since this story takes place in the days leading up to the D-Day invasion, I thought it might be a good way to spark their interest in learning more about that period of history. If we had still been #Homeschooling we would have used the book in our History Class.
The story is set in May 1944 on the eve of the D-Day invasion, the novel follows Sergeant Peter Donalds and the members of the famed Black Devils, a commando unit made up of American and Canadian soldiers. What begins as a mission to capture a Nazi officer quickly turns into something far more dangerous as the men find themselves operating deep behind enemy lines in occupied France.
What I enjoyed most about Vengeance of the Allies was that it wasn’t simply about battles and military operations. The author also explores the difficult decisions soldiers were forced to make during wartime. The action keeps the story moving, but the human side of the conflict is what gives the novel its emotional depth.
As I read, I found myself thinking about the sacrifices made by the generation that lived through World War II. While this is a work of fiction, it serves as a reminder of the courage, uncertainty, and hardships faced by those who served and by the families waiting for them back home.
Readers who enjoy World War II fiction, military thrillers, and stories filled with action and suspense will likely enjoy Vengeance of the Allies especially if there family served in the War like mine did. The story is a fast-paced novel that also encourages readers to think about the realities of war and the impact it has on everyone involved.
Vengeance of the Allies combines action, suspense, and historical inspiration to create an engaging World War II novel. This story is the kind of book that reminds us why stories from this period continue to resonate with readers generation after generation.
About the Book:
“The action starts with the opening lines and continues to the last page.” – Cassi from Goodreads
Revenge is our primal need to make something whole. Vengeance is the instrument by which we do it.
It’s the eve of the D-Day Invasion of Occupied Europe, May 1944, and a clandestine plan is taking shape. Its task: Parachute into occupied France. Once there, capture a Nazi officer. Seems straightforward, or at least that’s what Sergeant Peter Donalds and his men thought. Members of the famed “Black Devils”, a commando unit composed of American and Canadian soldiers, they are soon embroiled in a secret mission that will force them to not only fight for their lives but reexamine everything they thought they knew.
Will Donalds and his men be able to navigate the murky business of operating behind enemy lines? Or will this ultimately cost them their lives?
★★★★★”This is a WWII story told from a different perspective. Full of action, emotion, and some ethical soul searching, it is a really engaging story that had me from the first page. This is fiction but if you’re interested in this part of history you might want to read more of the story.” – Liz from Goodreads
★★★★★” I am transported to what can be experienced in a war situation and the abuses, tyrannies, and crimes that are committed against the population that is only fighting hard for its survival. The author shows great talent in capturing the fiction of these situations and writing them. Waiting for his next book, I highly recommend it reading.” – Martha from Goodreads
