North Richland Hills Discovery Day: Food, Bookstores & Hidden Finds Along Davis Boulevard

Aldi/ Aldi Aisle of Shame Father's Day Gift Guide Father's Day Gift Guide 2026: Gifts, Food, Books & Family Fun North Richland Hills

The other day David and started the morning in Riverside, Texas then we headed toward North Richland Hills, Texas when David spotted cheap gas at our local Walmart Neighborhood Market. We topped off the tank and later made sure the car was fully filled so we were set for the week.

By the time we headed further into North Richland Hills, it was still early, and our first stop—Troop’s Bookstore—wasn’t open yet. So instead of rushing, we took a slow drive down Davis Boulevard and just explored the area looking at all the new businesses that had opened up.

Eventually, David surprised me by stopping at a small home-style restaurant that sells breakfast and lunch. I had sweet tea and French toast that turned into more than one meal worth of food. David had coffee and a hamburger. It was simple, filling, and exactly what we needed at that moment.

On the way back to Troops Bookstore David and I also stopped at a ALDI we hadn’t ever been to on the way back through. It was different from our usual location, and I was able to grab a few Father’s Day items for my gift guide while we walked through the store.

Once it was time, we made it to Troop’s Bookstore and the surrounding area. We were surprised to find a model train shop nearby, along with a music studio and several small businesses tucked into the same space. It has a lot of potential as a family-friendly stop if more shops or a small café are added in the future.

We also discovered a hidden barbecue spot nearby that we plan to come back and try. Even though we live in North Richland Hills this ended up being one of those slow, unplanned days where the best parts were the unexpected stops and quiet discoveries.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
