Red Bull Air Race World Championship

Last Saturday Charlie, David and I took Charlie’s friend Kaiden to Texas Motor Speedway to attend RED BULL AIR RACE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. I was Blessed to be given tickets to the show because the tickets allowed us to bring Kaiden who hadn’t ever been to Texas Motor Speedway.

When we picked up Kaiden up Kerry and John’s parents meet us at there front door. John reminded Kaiden how lucky he was to attend a event at Texas Motor Speedway because he hadn’t ever been and the Nascar Races are on John’s Bucket List. As we was talking Kerry let us know she would like to go at least once as well.

Once John finished talking I let John know we weren’t seeing a Nascar Race but attending RED BULL AIR RACE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP  a Air Show. Before I could finish telling John what we were seeing he let Kaiden know he could stay home because he wanted to go with us. Now, I could have been nice and let John go in my place but I wanted to see this event just as much as John did. I was quite and went back out to the car.

David left Saginaw and we headed to Texas Motor Speedway. I thought we might end up in Race Day Traffic although we were blessed with wonderful Weather and no, traffic. It was smooth driving all the way to the track. We was early enough that the boys was able to get out and walk around.

As we got out of our car a man in a Golf Cart asked if we would like a ride to the Gate. Even though Charlie wanted to walk I said no, we was going to ride because I knew with all the walking we would be doing throughout the day that my knee and foot would be hurting. Charlie said okay and hoped onto the Golf Cart as well. I reminded David he needed to tip our driver…

Once the gates opened up the Boys wanted to walk through the Exhibits and play Games they had set out. I let them and it was so nice seeing Charlie laugh and have fun with his friend he doesn’t get to spend enough time with. We went on inside and Charlie had fun explaining to Kaiden what all he would see and where we would sit at

I gave both Kaiden and Charlie a quick lesson on what we would be seeing and shared information letting them know Texas Motor Speedway had been chosen as the venue that would play host to the 2018 season finale of the RED BULL AIR RACE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP .

Charlie, and Kaiden looked up the races on the way to ur seats because they wanted to see what else they could find out about RED BULL AIR RACECharlie was excited to find out that Fort Worth would be the eighth and final stop for the international air racing series which began in February in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and ultimately will compete in seven different countries.

Charlie asked me if I knew what show featured Abu Dhabi. I said yes, Sex and The City the movie not the Television Show. Then David reminded us that United Arab Emirates is one of the airplanes David puts food  because David works DFW Airport in the Catering Department.

With that in mind, here’s a breakdown of what we were able to see on Saturday.

What is the Red Bull Air Race?

The Red Bull Air Race features the world’s best racing pilots in a pure motorsport competition that combines speed, precision and skill. They use the fastest, most agile, lightweight race planes, pilots reach speeds of 230 miles per hour as they navigate a low-level, slalom track featuring 82-foot-high, air-filled pylons.

The objective is to navigate the aerial race layout in the fastest possible time while incurring as few penalties as possible. Pilots earn championship points at each of the eight stops with the world champion being crowned during the season finale at Texas Motor Speedway.

I would like to tell you watching how fast and how high the planes went made me gasp numerous time and I even had to hide my eyes a few times as they would hit the barriers they was supposed to fly through. Although Charlie and Kaiden liked that part the most although they didn’t like seeing the Pilots being penalized.

When is the Red Bull Air Race?

The Red Bull Air Race World Championship will run on Saturday, Nov. 17 from approximately 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. I would like to share something funny with you about  Saturday’s session we set a time to leave by as we had another place to be that evening. Although through the day the boys would say I am bored can we leave.

By the time I finished gathering up our stuff they would change there minds as a Plane they liked would come out and they wanted to watch it. The next thing we knew it was the last flight of the day and the Races was over and all of us was asking how could it be over and stating we would like to return on Sunday to see who won.

On Saturday we was able to watch both the Challenger and Master Class practices, as well as qualifying for both divisions. I loved how we all agreed on one Pilot and Prayed he would win. Although the boys each had a plane they liked the best and David and I had one we both liked and wanted to win. Now, before you ask me if our Pilot or the planes we picked out won I can’t answer that question as we wasn’t there on Sunday.

During the breaks we were able to watch a Motorcycle Act as well as a Bicycle Act. If your a mom and weren’t there to see the bike tricks be glad  because they scared the Beejeebies out of me. Charlie wants to try the tricks on his bike. As a mom we need to let our children grow and try new things but there is no way my child would be doing this ever..

I wish we had known that we could purchase a hangar walk add-on package to our grandstand tickets because Charlie would have been able to get up close to the Planes and also the Pilots and Charlie might have been able to get there autographs. Which is fine that we didn’t purchase the package because if the races come back to Fort Worth it will allow us to do something new if we are able to attend the Race.

There was fourteen pilots from 10 countries competing in the Master Class, including Americans Michael Goulian of Peabody, Mass., and Kirby Chambliss of Corpus Christi, Texas. Goulian currently leads the championship by a five-point margin over Czech Republic’s Martin Sonka.

I would like to let you know even women participate in this Race although I don’t think I could do it myself. I could see my Stepdaughter Leslie because like Charlie she isn’t afraid of anything and likes to try new and unique things at least once.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
