Holidays Homeschool Resources

I thought I would share two #Holidays that would be fun to celebrate together which fell on September 22 World Rhino Day #worldrhinoday September 22 Family Day #FamilyDay.

September 22nd is World Rhino Day which celebrates five species of Rhinos around the world. From a conservation perspective, World Rhino Day raises awareness of the plight of these beautiful beasts.

The five species of rhinos include Black, White, Greater One-horned, Sumatran, and Javan. At one time, Rhinos were found throughout Eurasia and Africa. In the early 20th Century, about 500,000 Rhinos roamed the Earth.

Today, Rhinos have a hard time surviving outside national Parks and reserves. The Javan and Sumatran Rhinos in Asia are critically endangered. There are only about 58 to 68 Javan Rhinos in the world. In 2011, a subspecies of the Javan Rhino was declared extinct. Today, only 80 Sumatran Rhinos remain.

Here’s a fun and educational homeschool lesson plan to celebrate World Rhino Day on September 22nd. This plan is designed for elementary to middle school learners and can be adapted for different age groups.

September 22 National Family Day:

National Family Day is celebrated on September 22, which puts the spotlight on the people that make our lives meaningful. We all know families come in many forms and sizes and under different circumstances, but what they all share is unconditional love and support for those growing on the same family tree.

From nuclear family units to extended clans, families can drive us crazy and make life worth living. Take sometime today to appreciate the special folks in your life. Give them a call, take them out to lunch, or send them a note to let them know you’re thinking of them!
